Lamar Jackson got the non-exclusive Franchise Tag. Any team can agree on a contract with him in exchange for 2 first round picks. Ravens can match the deal. Is any owner crazy/desperate enough to offer a fully guaranteed $250M/5yr contract?

So far, even the dumpster fire NFCSouth isn’t going there. Looking at you Atlanta, Carolina & Tampa (NO excluded as no salary cap space). Raiders staying away too….

We traded away a rb on a big contract to the Niners , would be dumb to invest two first rounders + max salary into another.

That RB is still better than any QB you have had since Prime Newton.

I am hoping ever team passes and Lamar decides to take the Ravens long term offer. I am hoping that we are only offering in the $40M range, with less than half guaranteed.

No way, Jones just got that kind of number.

I reckon it'll be up around the $50m+ per year but it's the guarantees that would be the sticking point IMO. Wilson and Murray are already staking out the $46m-49m range, Rodgers is a touch over $50m, and every new QB signing jumps the last lot.

No one else is offering anything…. There is only 1 buyer. Unless Lamar really wants to sit, he lost leverage today.

2 firsts is less than Watson OR Wilson cost in assets. Salary would be slightly more than wAtson but that is due to increase in cap.

He's been injured 2 years in a row towards the end of the season and is a playoff and 4th quarter choke artist. Watson is creep but he's also a pocket passer and outside the ACL doesn't have an injury history. I said the Wilson trade by Broncos was dumb at the time.

He's likely more valuable to Baltimore than anyone, I would have thought the Falcons would be the team to give him all the money he wants if anyone was going to.

I thought Falcons would have flown him to Atlanta by now…. He would generate seat sales & shirt sales and bring a huge focus to the team.

I was resigned to Lamar being a Falcon since halfway through last year.

The only reason no one is offering anything is coz it will cost you two firsts for the privilege.
The other reason is absolutely no one wants to give out fully guaranteed contracts. If Lamar moved on that, there'd be a queue out the door... but the Ravens would have a) already got a deal done, and/or b) used the exclusive franchise tag.

By releasing Calais Campbell, not re-signing Ben Powers and Josh Oliver, and giving Lamar the Non-Exclusive tag over the exclusive tag, the Baltimore Ravens are officially 4.037 million under the cap.

All things considered. Ravens GM Eric Decosta maneuvered around an extremely tough situation beautifully.

Overall the Ravens didn’t lose much at all, considering the circumstances.

In theory we have space.

Post signing draft picks, we actually have none.

We really need to bring back Houston & Campbell on their last years salary…. $1.5M each BUT we can’t do that.

Not many options available, without lower next years available cap OR signing Lamar ‘show me the money’ Jackson.

Ravens spent roughly $7.6M on WR last year (last in the league). Previous year $12.6M (second last in the league).

We really need to fix this shit up and not blame Lamar for being a bad passer, when he throws to the worst WR group in the league.

It’s FA, but we aren’t active due to having a pissed off QB, who doesn’t want to be blamed for poor passing stats any more.

Lamar signed.

A great draft class.

My criticism would have been not getting Vorhees in the 6th but then we traded back in to get him in the 7th. So, very happy with that.

Loved Nakua, Brents & Tillman; who went elsewhere. I will have to watch how they go.

How do you all feel about the OBJ signing? He's a remarkable talent and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do, but he's also 30 and coming off a recent ACL tear. I'll watch him with interest, anyway!

Do you think it was a good signing, or do you have more pressing needs than WR at the moment?

Not recent by this point - 1 1/2 years or so.

It's good insomuch as it helped Lamar re-signing, but I think it'll just be a wait and see. Flowers is also an exciting add.

OBJ was and still is a need. He commands at least a CB if not more in coverage. Frequently Andrews got triple teamed, with 2 Safeties and a nickel back. The WR were left alone outside on islands, as they weren’t great route runners or had great hands.

Enter OBJ & Flowers.
OBJ can get deep and catch contested balls. He is like a get out of jail escape code for a QB. This is key for Lamar, as only Andrews has done that consistently. A healthy OBJ will give defensive coordinators a bit more to think about.
Flowers is dangerous on check-downs due to run after the catch ability and he can get deep over the top. He is going to open things up short, as well as deep and is so shifty, he gets open even against our Probowl CB Humphrey.

So now we have 3 threats, 4 IF Bateman (former first round WR) is healthy. 5 IF you count Likely too, who would be a starting TE on another team.

Lamar will still scramble when it’s there but I expect more throws to WR than he has ever made previously. It should be fun to watch. Do they still spy on Lamar, giving him more time in the pocket but take away the scramble? Week 2 versus Bengals is where we find out. We almost beat them last year in the playoffs without Lamar and many other starters. I like our chances this year, we are all in cap wise. I don’t know IF we can keep OBJ, due to lack of cap space next year.

Bengals 0-2 for the division as well is a very nice bonus.

Monken's O started putting it together today and Lamar looked good throwing the ball when he had time.

Bateman looks like he's still being eased into things so there is upside there.

Really surprised with how well our Oline held up as well with Stanley and linderbaum missing.
