Sounds like butler is turning heads this pre season... I would guess that he's slightly in front of Stengle and Bolton at this stage. Will be great seeing these 3 go at it next week.
I have only seen the first 1/4 of the practice game, Stengle & Bolton did a bit. Butler's goals looked like cheap ones out the back. And I was about to tear strips off Griff, Grigg & Edwards for their shitness, but Edwards & Griff in particular played well. PS Stengle is a rookie. Can he be elevated before the season starts?

Agree and they're gonna have to give him a shot at some point - hasn't played a single senior game. I'd rather see him early than some consolation game in the back half of the year if finals are out. But he's going to have to tip out one of Lloyd or Rioli who both look pretty hard to dislodge. Riolis preseason footage is impressive
& Bolton looked OK too.

Markov is his replacement/upgrade

But it all depends on how well Markov plays whether he stays or is dropped for Houli

Disgaree - Houli makes the side as first choice HBF/BP replacement for Short. Short on the bench rotating with Houli with the possibility of also being that FP back up. And maybe a couple mins in the midfield if needed. He'll play if Houli gets injured but Houli gotta be first choice.

You are probably right that Houli is first choice - with the coaches

But i really would like to see what Markov can truly do, we know what Houli gives us, and as such what we SHOULD be doing is seeing if we can continually upgrade on these role players. He's consistent in output but as always I want more

I reckon Markov and Houli play. I think Kmac might get pushed up the ground a bit more. More wing/inside kinda like Grigg.

I still don't see all the love for short in the back line ohh well. And noticed you haven't included houli anywhere are you also not i fan of his or simply forgot to add him? I also think that whey will loose patience with griffiths and nank hampson will be our main big man with maric as back up.

He would be in instead of Butler, I just added him as an experiemental line up for JLT since he hasn't had a go at afl level.

Houli played well on wing back half of year when he returned from injury, would like to see him rotating between hb and wing
Really ? He played, but I don't believe it was well . Hard to say bc when he came back we played some howlers.
Houli survives bc our list is so bleak , but he needs upgrading bc he lacks physicality and shits himself with ball in hand. Often Caught out in two minds and then coughs it up under little pressure and also easily shut down bc he has no right foot.
Hec , but he's still best 22.

He is a good bloke and adds religious diversity so he stays best 22 IMO

:thumbsu:Agree with all of this, but this not the reason why he's on the books . He is paid to be an afl footballer not to be the Good Samaritan. Now if he has flaws in his game and there are better players he will be upgraded. Most blokes on an AFL list are good blokes with exceptional qualities. If these are prerequisites only that Houli has then FJ and BH may as well rock up to the local Mosque or other religious institutes to pick up players.:oops::eek::$:)

Agree with most of this, I think that is why they gave him a run on the wing, less pressure. I don't think that worked because as a half back, not many were better at rebounding than Houli. Was not often shut down. Regular 30 possession winner.
On the wing you have to find the ball more and not get given it. Hopefully Markov takes his roll, but although he has his defensive/pressure flaws, he was pretty dynamic off HB for a few seasons, I think he has earned enough points to see if he can re-capture form. If not, he's been a pretty good player.

He came to our club as a mid and we gave him a gurantee that he will be playing only somehow we turned him into a defender. He can't be any worse as an outside mid the B ellis or grigg for that matter perhaps if markov stands up he might prove his worth. I've always been frustrated in him as a defender.

Is there such a thing as an outside mid. They all have to get the ball. As an outside player, Shane Edwards wins a lot of clearances. Can Houli do this... Tried on the wing last year, not his best year, but yes he's earned another shot. As far as Grigg goes, he's a pretty honest under rated player these days.

IMO Both Grigg & Houli have been better value to RFC than Shane Edwards , He is extremely over rated by Richmond supporters

Edwards will have the blow torch applied to him this year with so many challengers for his position , Port Adelaide awaits

Yes I sort of agree, just two seasons ago he was pretty bloody good, just took about 6 seasons to get there. And yes his position is there for the grabbing, Rioli, Stengle, Bolton and Butler. Notice he played wing in the inter club, maybe it will force him to be in the game all the time and not in and out. If Edward up his possessions then he'll be hard to displace because he uses it so well. But what are the odds.

He had a long lay of remember so not ideal and what do you call griggs and b ellis position in the team? outside mids are the receivers if you like so id rather houli there then b ellis at least he will hit target with his eyes closed not like the other who gets and bombs away.

Hope he gets phased out. If he doesn't he better be having a solid year. 20p and a goal a game solid.
