I hereby decree we chuck rampe into the midfield for some game time next year. Excellent by foot, was a midfielder in the neafl and with the added benefit of being quick he might just be what we need through the guts. Also talia coming back in might free him up to go up the ground.

I doubt it will happen (I also doubt anyone agrees with me) because he's so valuable down back but I would love to see what he could do in the middle.

Just had his best year playing in the back 6, will only get better as a defender.

I think we need to look at Grundy and Smith they will be in our starting 18 come the start of the year but I think they may be struggling come years end. The statues around the MCG move quicker than these two and their disposals are slow and rarely hit the targets.

It off-season, baby

Smith is somehow getting worse with ball in hand, though.

Yeah but that isn't how it works. They'd have to use 15.
The Giants have been shedding midfielders, and with Hopper looking likely to break in, they're pretty well placed.

Coniglio, Shiel, Ward, Scully, Griffen, Greene, Whitfield, Kelly, Hopper and throw in Deledio now - how many do GWS want!

Just have to hope they decide against matching.

Still not right, If we bid at pick 9 and GWS choose to match this is done so using their next available picks. Pick 15 & 37 will cover this with 126 points change.

This is were I'm a little lost but I think it means their pick 37 slides to the equivalent of 126 points, giving them a pick at...... pick 61!!
I thought the 126 points gets added onto their next pick, which in this case would bring pick 39 forward to pick 33?

So essentially picks 15, 37 and 39 for Perryman and Pick 33

Nick Smith's finals series was superb. Not just defensively, with ball in hand he made very good decisions under high pressure (aside from a few forlorn disposals in the GF which a lot of people are focusing on). Go back and watch all three other finals and you'll see him time and again nailing it.

I'm genuinely stunned people are down on him at the moment.

Smith is one of the best small defenders to ever play the game.

Agree 100%, he's one of our most consistent performers.

I think sometimes people see him turnover a kick or get beaten for pace and decide he's had a bad game, when in reality he generally beats his man and plays his role.

Both are out of contract at the end of the year aren't they? I dare say this will both be their last season.

Smith will carry on like a champ as he always does.
Pretty sure Laidler has 2 years left. Surely his last 2 which is a shame. I had high hopes for Jezza.
Macca simply has to give it away after this year. Should give up the captaincy before the start of the season too.

Dam, I thought Laidler had 2 including the season just gone.

Who thinks macca would be willing to give up the captaincy? Not a chance in he'll

Horse is going to have to pry it out of his cold dead hands

BTW Laidler's contract extension will keep him in Sydney until at least the end of 2018.

Damnit. Had no impact in the gf and looked like a slow plodder with no creativity. And not even a real appetite for the contest. Just a complete non-event

Laidler is only 27? A third tall intercepting defender?

Would have 5 years I reckon.
