Not your favorite artist but the best voices you've ever heard. Will have a think about it but surely Roy Orbison deserves a mention, and unbelievable voice.

Jeff Buckley could do amazing things. Mike Patton can do amazing things. Might not technically be the best, but I admire them a lot.

Tom Waits and Shane MacGowan have great voices, I like the whiskey and cigarettes tone. There's an aching to Gram Parson's voice that's irresistible and his duets with Emmylou Harris are beautiful, Sinatra deserves an honourable mention too.

Bloody hell! As soon as I saw the thread title, the first 3 that popped into my head were Roy Orbison, Tom Waits & Jeff Buckley - all covered within the first 3 posts.

Therefore I will go with the first 3 women that come to mind - Jewel, Eva Cassidy & Billie Holiday.

I always really enjoyed the 90s salsa work of Marc Anthony, particularly before he made the crossover to english-language.

Tina Arena has been one of my favourite female voices since I was a kid. Anggun is another fave.

Other artists with decent voices tend to also make lots of excellent albums, or have a winning distinct personality embedded in their voice that makes them our personal fave, but the above are the sorts where I'll buy practically anything regardless of the quality or what they are singing about, the showstoppers.

One of the best voices in rock, was a big part of Soundgarden and Audioslave's success, helped make them stand out from the crowd, a unique singer.

I'm the same, tried to pick singers I like who can actually sing.

Dylan and Nick Cave have voices I love but aren't "great" singers.

Agree with whoever said Ed Vedder. Guys voice is insanely emotive.

Also love Marvin Gaye.

Bon Scott was starting to hit his straps on Highway To Hell, Mutt Lange was getting the very best out of him. Sadly that was the last of that for Bon. Very soulful when he wanted to be.

Freddie Mercury had an unbelievable range.
