It’s been an excellent season and I’d first like to congratulate the West Coast Whales on their strong season and Grand Final Victory over the Melbourne Bolts

When we undertook the task of restarting the BFFCL, a group of myself, SarahSmiles, akkaps, iBeng and kdavva74 we hoped to lay down the foundations for a strong rebirth of the competition. But boy oh boy did we surpass that. After the first draft our four teams of the Blue Mountain Bounders, the Melbourne Bolts, the Red Centre Kangaroos and the West Coast Whales each had strong squads that got to know each other, interact and form friendships. To all of the players who were involved in this season, I would like to say thank you for making this season run as smoothly as possible.

So now onto the awards. We will be handing out awards for the following categories:
Most Runs
Most Wickets
Best Strike Rate (Bat)
Best Strike Rate (Bowl)
“Best” All-Rounder
Most Valuable Player
Rookie Of The Year

The MVP Count will go on throughout the whole night and the other awards will be awarded throughout the count. There will be no live leaderboard, so keep count in your head! Now, let’s get on with the show.

Huge thanks to Barrybran for the graphics for the show!

Round 1
This season started with a bang. The eastern teams of Melbourne and Blue Mountains faced off in New South Wales while the Ulu-Rena played host to the Red Centre Kangaroos vs West Coast Whales clash. To preface, votes are given by the captains not playing in the matches concerned, so in Round 1 the votes for Melbourne vs Blue Mountains were given by the captains of Red Centre and West Coast and Vice versa. Now that that’s clear, here are the votes!

Melbourne took the win over Blue Mountains despite a gallant effort with the bat by KohPhi, while Kirkswan dominated in her first match for the Whales.

The first award to be given out this season will be the most runs award. This award is given to a player who shows great strength with the bat. The award heading into the final round looked like it would either go to Nakia or sportsmaniac89, however Nakia pulled free in the final round and with a phenomenal average of 79.20 and total score of 396 from 6 matches, the award for most runs goes to...
Cockarfitt (formerly known as Nakia) of the Melbourne Bolts!

This award will henceforth be known as the Nakia Medal

Round 2
For the second round of the season we unknowingly had our Grand Final preview, the West Coast Whales went head to head with the Melbourne Bolts. The Bolts continued their winning ways easily accounting for the Whales. The Bounders on the other hand dropped to 0-2 against the Roos and finding themselves on the bottom of the table early. Cockarfitt and Van_Dyke shared 5 votes each, as did Sterge and Headless while KohPhi and Fizzler got two votes each from Round 2

Now for the next award, the Most Wickets award. To win this award a player must show exceptional class with the ball in hand (no homo) and have some great hands in the field too. The award seemed like SparkleNarkle had it in the bag for a while, although in the last round Hatchy1992 had an exceptional performance and left both bowlers on 12 wickets. Thanks to this, the bowler with the best economy rate wins, so congratulations to Hatchy1992 of the Melbourne Boltson winning the Most Wickets award, henceforth known as the Hatchy1992 medal!

Round 3

Round 3 was a bit of a historic one, the Bolts knocked the league’s highest total, as TJASTA compensated for the disappointing total of 6 by the top 3 by scoring 130 runs, giving the Bolts their third successive win and a score of over 200 in each of them. SparkleNarkle in the meantime scores a 5-fer in his team’s clash with the Whales, despite a 30 run loss. Both players scored a maximum of 6 votes in Round 3.

Now for the best average award, in order to win this, you must be a consistent batter, however this award went to a player with a grand total of one match to his name. Congratulations to Karnezis_13 who had 155 runs in his only game. Congratulations to Karnezis_13 who will have this medal named in his honour

Also for the best strike rate, this award goes to Barrybran who is the Bolts 3rd award winner and has a strike rate of 210.29. This award will be named the Barrybran medal

Round 4
In Round 4 the season started to take a turn. The Bounders clocked up their first win, and against the previously undefeated Bolts. This meant that the Whales, who took the W against the Roos, drew level with the Bolts at 3-1. The Bolts vs Bounders match was in the balance until late, and despite the Bolts losing, Nakia took home the maximum of 6 votes from his 107 run masterclass. The Half Back scored 69 not out and also took maximum votes in a low scoring affair between Red Centre and West Coast.

Now for the award for the Best Strike Rate for bowlers. The same two bowlers as the most wickets lead the charge here, and with strike rate being the deciding factor in the most wickets award, Hatchy1992 takes the gong again, this award is henceforth known as the Hatchy1992 Award (Not Medal)

And for the “Best All-Rounder” this is a bit of a joke award, but it’s still an award nonetheless, congratulations to KBLT on winning this award, henceforth known as the KBLT Medal with this impressive stat line.

Round 5
Karnezis_13 and sportsmaniac89 both had a match for the ages, particularly sporty who scored a league record of 135 not out. The Whales vs Bolts match was the true Grand Final preview, with the result being what happened in the Grand Final. The Roos vs Bounders match was a massive blowout 69 run win for the Bounders.

The highest score was scored this round, so congratulations to sportsmaniac89 who wins the highest score award, henceforth known as the sportsmaniac89 medal. He beat out some very high competition from an unlucky TJASTA who almost brought home another award to Melbourne.

Round 6
Quadzilla took 5 wickets and Kirkswan worked wonders with the bat to seal first place with the Whales’ 5th win while the Bolts clinched a spot in the final with a win over the Roos. Nakia and Fizzler were incredibly dominant with the bat, and Hatchy1992 played well with the ball.

So now with those votes all done we have our winner. Winning the eddiesmith trophy for the Player Of The Season with 16 votes and 5 votes clear of second place...

Cockarfitt! Congratulations on a marvellous season with a huge tally of runs!
The highest polling rookie also wins the Rookie of the Year Trophy, and for this season we have a tie. With 11 MVP votes each, Quadzilla and Kirkswan both win the Rookie of the Year award, henceforth known as the Kirkswan-Quadzilla trophy. Here’s to long, successful careers that have both started with a flag.
Thank you all for sticking through this slow awards night, here’s a toast to the award winners.
