I think with ROB we knew we didnt have a viable alternative and we held out as long as we could. We did, but I suspect their 'leadership' credentials stopped us from doing it until long after it should have happened.
Smith, yep agree there.

New Songs incomming for this season,Even more depressing was the stupid crazy frog song when he kicked a goal at home.
A saving grace that he kicked so few.
Taylor's do love their wineTo be fair we played him late last year once his form warranted inclusion, he hadn’t had a solid injury free run before that. It will be harder for him at the start of this year as we have Peatling, Rankine and potentially Draper all vying for the same positions. I certainly think the club sees a valuable player there though.
I actually met his parents (as well as Bond’s) for his second game last year up in the Peter Carey bar, and they were very complimentary of the club and how they had handled him. In fact there were about 20 family members all draped in Crows gear. The histerical thing was that they were back over to see him because his mum got so hammered at his first game that she couldn’t remember it.![]()
Hey Bigman,Given many of you would’ve watched the internal on Friday, there’s not a whole lot more for me to add so I’ll keep it nice and short.
I wouldn’t expect Rankine or Sholl to play at Mount Barker. Rankine was a no show while Sholl was solely running laps with Max in the rehab group and had a heavily strapped right knee. He was rather ginger to start with, though he was moving better by the end of the session, but I’d be shocked if he played. Not sure he’s tracking great for round one.
Butts was also a no show so unless he missed due to a personal reason, I’m assuming he could be absent on Friday evening as well.
There didn’t appear to be any new injuries today thankfully. So hypothetically Max, Rankine, Sholl, Butts and Strachan will be the only ones unavailable on Friday.
There was some match sim near the end of the session. Teams were as follows:
Blue
FB: Murray Keane Worrell
HB: Bond Laird Milera
_C: Curtin Soligo Jones
HF: ANB Peatling Keays
FF: Fogarty Walker Thilthorpe
_R: O’Brien Dawson Crouch
INT: Rachele Cumming Draper
White
FB: Hinge Borlase Edwards
HB: Ryan Smith Nankervis
_C: Cook Berry Dowling
HF: Taylor Murphy Pedlar
FF: Welsh Burgess Murray
_R: Mcandrew Schoenberg Drury
INT: Gallagher
Now obviously this isn’t a definite indication of our starting side on Friday but it should go pretty close. At the very least it would suggest that Bond is the preferred replacement for Max, which makes sense even though I still think Nank is getting unfairly ignored.
LAs for the match sim, it was over pretty quickly so not a heap to take out of it. The intensity and skill level was pretty good though, the boys aren’t holding back a whole lot.
Just a few player thoughts:
Jones - beautifully read a switch of play from Edwards, getting the intercept and snapping the goal. If Sholl is to miss round one it would seem Chayce is the likely replacement at this stage, given he was in the As both last week and today.
Curtin - trained with the forwards for much of the session but was on the wing in match sim, so expect him to spend some time there on Friday.
Laird/Smith - wasn’t impressed by the ball use of either today. I fully expect Laird to play round one but a couple times today he failed to execute properly going inside 50, going long and high when the short pass would’ve been much better. Smith on the other hand turned it over a couple times exiting out of defence, including one poor switch which led to a Rachele goal.
Borlase - took a lovely intercept mark and received some love from Godden after the match sim. In a tricky place given we have better key defenders but I’d be curious as to who would be next in line, him or Butts.
T. Murray - his body work and timing has improved markedly over the last few weeks. Once again today he got into a great position to take a couple of pack marks, unfortunately his hands deserted him. If he can get more consistency in the air, he could be something. Liked what I saw from him in Port Pirie too.
What's the go with Hinge? Surely he's in the best 22?Given many of you would’ve watched the internal on Friday, there’s not a whole lot more for me to add so I’ll keep it nice and short.

I would have thought he'd be ahead of Bond for a spot at half back unless Bond has been absolutely tearing it up this preseason, or Hinge has been doing whatever the opposite of tearing it up is.What's the go with Hinge? Surely he's in the best 22?
Maybe he is playing as badly as he was last pre-season ?What's the go with Hinge? Surely he's in the best 22?
But it could be avoided is what I am saying, whether we agree with it or not, you are right it is part of the business. Not at all, this is just part of the business. If it isn't Smith, the fans would turn on someone else, and there is always someone else, regardless if the side is languishing at the bottom of the table, or a dynasty side.
Fans are a fickle bunch and someone needs to seen as the cause of all woes.
Hes always been a great pre season kind of bloke. I reckon you can write off last year with a foot injury and some personal issues.Jones must be one of the luckiest 'footballers' going around
I don't know how he has gone past Nankervis and Dowling based on last years performances
Is this the 7th year we are hoping he comes good ?

Crows fans only need to remind themselves this time last year, Powell-Pepper took out Keane in a trial game.I would not risk Rankine against Port in Mount Barker, who knows what dirty things Port has planned plus he had a great match hitout in the all stars game. He can play against Brisbane in the other pre season match.
Can we put the "comes from a good family" myth to bed yet or do we still need ten more counter examples yet?The histerical thing was that they were back over to see him because his mum got so hammered at his first game that she couldn’t remember it.![]()
Can he keep shape though?
Soli dropped it on 5aa this arvoAh, the “shape” word that disappeared about halfway thru last season and strangely happened once the season was done and dusted from memory.
In the short amount of game time, he did move into the midfield but there were no centre bounces.Hey Bigman,
Did Peatling rotate through the midfield? Assuming he did
Would love to know your opinion on what u have seen over pre season what u think the Midfield mix will be
I wouldn’t look too much into it, it’s happened before with Worrell as well and he’s clearly best 22.What's the go with Hinge? Surely he's in the best 22?
Personally I think this shows he does come from a good family. Can we put the "comes from a good family" myth to bed yet or do we still need ten more counter examples yet?
If we had this guy kicking out, we'd have to wear the one that did go right
