AFL.com.au and Fox Sports both had McHenry in the top 20.
Probably because they knew we'd done plenty of work on him.

Foxsports Phantom had this to say about Ned

Bio: McHenry is an exciting small midfielder/forward who cracks in hard in the contest and is willing to tackle hard to win the ball back. Not only is Ned a good football player, but he potentially is the ‘Jack Higgins’ of the 2018 pool — with the Geelong Falcons player being a star media performer in his own right, hosting his own ‘Ned’s Falcons Files’ TV show on the Falcons’ Facebook page. If an AFL career doesn’t word out for Ned, a media career beckons.

So the best they can say is "cracks in hard in the contest and is willing to tackle hard to win the ball back" Hardly the write up to give you a hard on! Or burn pick 16 on. Those are at best Rookie Draft traits.

BTW, Ned was pick 16, only saving grace is most of the picks after him have proved no better, best being X Duursma at 18, Rowbottom at 25, Sparrow at 27, (Hamill at 30)

No matter how I structure my best 23, Ned just doesn't make it, he's no Gulden

Our failure wasn’t necessarily drafting McHenry, as there weren’t many players better than him at that point of the draft, it was failing to realise 2018 was considered a “super draft” for it’s top end and not trading into that top end despite having the currency to.

Getting Izak back has considerably softened the blow

Agreed. It wasn't that we made McHenry our pick, it's that we got caught up in the superdraft hype, without realising it was only the top of the draft that deserved the hype.

We could have done that as well

It was a miss anyway you slice it.

It happens though and we seem to be hitting more often recently

Bit of a subdued session today but still a bit to take out of it.

Most notable was a slightly larger rehab group which consisted of murray, schoenberg (still very light duties), dragon, sloane, milera and surprisingly Thilthorpe. Not sure what the go is there with filthy, to be honest he didn’t really look hampered at all so guessing it’s not a big problem but not ideal nonetheless

Burgess came out halfway through the session and did his own running which I found strange. Similar to Thilthorpe he looked fine so not sure what the issue is. Dawson and O’Brien weren’t there at all. Daws makes sense given the wedding, not sure why O’Brien didn’t feature.

Parnell has strapping on his right shoulder and was wearing a fluro hat but did all the drills. Welsh was there for the first part of the session, Toby Murray also featured and continues to look pretty solid.

Most of training was touch and skill work, nothing really in terms of full ground drills or match simulation, so not too many standouts but one I did want to mention was Soligo who looks ultra fit and is moving beautifully. Not that he wasn’t fit previously but his running has definitely stepped up a level this pre season and I reckon he’s come back from xmas in even better condition.

Another to show real improvement physically is billy, who I have mentioned previously but every time I see him I can’t help but be impressed by his muscle gain since last year when he was a twig. For someone with quite narrow shoulders he is turning out to be a bit of a unit already so obviously he’s putting in the work.

Wasnt a heap of running today but what there was, taylor kept up nicely and I thought he looked sharp in general today. Wouldn't surprise me if he had a good block of training over the break.

Bigman, be interested to hear how The Berg is going as a defender when the match sims start. Surely they will move him into a defender role that GWS has earmarked to at least bulk up his trade value this season.

Who knows he might even turn out to be an OK defender at 199cm

No hints of this atm as berg still in rehab and there has been little match sim to date

GWS were targeting him as a forward-ruck

His manager in trade week said we had discussed using him as a defender but the move to GWS would see him in what (his manager) saw as his best position (forward)
