I genuinely don't even know what 'A Grader' means to most people on this site.

By local footy definition an A Grader is a player in the top grade. So it's essentially just clubland Best 22. Simple, clear cut definition. Fairly black and white interpretation.

At AFL level it has no quantifiable boundaries, (especially not best 22). So for me, arguing over the 'grade' of a player when the parameters of each grade are completely undefined is like arguing about how wet the ocean is.

2 time All Australian and 3 time club Best and Fairest is a solid B+ player?

Good lord.
You make it sound like I called him B grader or even worst a "C grader" like a notorious poster here, he is a solid B+ grade player so closer to A grade then B+ grade. Cripps is also horrible by foot but he has power so is consider an A grader, if he was better by foot then he would be elite. Dangerfield and Petracca also aren't the best by foot but they are elite as both are even more powerful goal kicking midfielder.

Dawson (probably will be elite), Walker and Rankine (end of this season) are all A graders then Laird would be next as a solid B+ grader.
So this argument has all been over what is the difference between B+ & A- lol.

Bring on the real stuff!

Nope. Quoted you correctly. You said a 2 time All Australian and 3 time B&F winner is a solid B+ player.

Now you are saying he is closer to an A grade than B+ grade player?

You forgot A+ (Walker), solid A+ (Murphy), A++ (Dawson)
Yep

And Elite Defender >>> Elite Midfielder because Joel Hamling is a premiership player but Dustin Martin isn't

Bottom line. Laird ain’t no B anything grader. Case closed.

Desk face.

Doesn’t champion data consider players in the top 10% to be elite?
Yeah, the AFL uses champion data's definitions. Given they already have a grading system it's confusing if someone invents their own.

A grade/ Elite = top 10% per position
B grade/ Above Ave = 11% to 35% per position
C grade/ Average = 36% to 65% per position
D grade/ Developing = 66% and below per position
U / ungraded = untried ie 0 games

So when people use ‘elite’ to defend their argument it’s based on the best for that season?
I would have thought more accurate brackets would be fixed percentages, ie an elite tackler has x amount for the year, elite disposal efficiency is y amount. They never change.
The current system means being elite could have a disposal efficiency as low as 45% eg.
Just another reason why stats are pointless in discussions.

His all australian wins were not in the midfield though.

He won best and fairests in teams that finished 14th, 15th and 12th. Is that really something that gives him league wide credentials?
