Yet you didn't answer the question.

I seriously cannot recall Sloane been used as a defender.

You can tell when they all line up for a centre bounce!
My memory is he spent some time there early in the season, starting behind the ball - but I haven't checked, and it might be my mind playing tricks on me.

I think that's our (potentially glorious) future, with Laird (maybe to half back) or Crouch eased out over the next few years. But for the right now, we don't have enough hard bodies in there to go with the better sides, so can't let either of Laird or Crouch go.

Pedlar probably takes some of that inside mid time over the next season if he can keep his body right, with Rachele and Rankine (I think we only differ in amount of midfield time) being more outside/ half forward for now.

I could see us flicking Crouch in the near-future seeing Nicks and co. have given the impression they don't have a lot of love for Matt.

I can't see us pushing Laird back to half back flanker. Wrong move for a side reliant on their outside game. I think he'll end up in the midfield until he retires.

What‘s to check?.. this is a well known fact..

but if youre one of these 3 main midfielders attending CBA then its more likely than not that your a) a midfielder and b) also going to be a midfielder that attends other stoppages around the ground..

your initial comment seemed to say “just because you attend CBA’s doesnt = youre a midfielder..”

now if you think this isnt a strange take then I dont know what to say to you..

I’d say atleast 80% of CBA attendees (apart from the ruck) are midfielders who play in the midfield!.
Lol, I'm not sure why you keep getting this backwards.

People keep pointing to CBAs, as if that's the only measure of someone being a midfielder.

Of course those three footballers are in the midfield. But they're not the only ones. Getting midfield time means a lot more than just getting a CBA. That's literally just for a bounce - a number of other players pretty much immediately push into the midfield.

But measuring that is tougher, so we just use the simple data of CBAs.

I don't recall this... but not saying I'm 100% either.

I only recall him playing wing, inside midfield & forward.

Cannot recall him lining up in defence for any centre ball up.

Coach showed plenty of love for Crouch in the last month of the season.

Sorry ....no cigar
Name me the game where Sloane lined up in defence Wayne.

Bet you can't...

It's almost like you don't understand the role of a wingman.

Pull out some heat maps for wingmen...

Of course, because that would allow you to defend the coaches parking young mids at half forward for seasons on end!

They are playing midfield... HFF is basically an extra midfielder...

Fine. If they're interchangeable roles then there's no problem with Laird or Sloane or Crouch playing there at times. So why don't they?

Big credit to Keays for becoming effective in a role outside the centre square. Has created space for others. Need more of it from the senior guys.

I think he is hoping with a couple of more years out on the HFF, those young players will develop into the new Murphy

My guess would be
Dawson near 100%
Laird 70% / Crouch 70%
Pedlar / Rachelle the other little.

Dawson is our trump card. Can be outside or inside depending on who is in there. He could well go brownlow. Don't forget how good he was last year and that was with no preseason as mid. Just got moved there during the year.

Our midfield will look excellent if we can keep Dawson on the wing feeding our forwards. That’s a plan I’d love but it requires our midfielders winning or at least breaking even in the middle.

No. We want Dawson in CBAs. so many beautiful centre clearances.

No, Dawson needs to play mainly midfield.

We should rotate him forward at times as a goal kicking weapon who is good overhead.

If the other team has a run on, or we we are saving the game late, he can play in defence.

I reckon the best news is Cook.
Sounds like he is fitter but the good news is that he was played up forward today.
I hope they persist with him up there as I have always thought that's his best position.
Great reports bigman, much appreciated, especially with them bringing the balls out early
Could be a good shout to be the Macadm replacement if he continues this pre-season form? I understand the idea to put him on the wing and HB and get involved more, but he has the innate ability of knowing where the goals are.

I’d like to see him rest forward a bit more
& we have the team to make this happen as we have Pedlar, Rachele, Rankine & Soligo who can all rotate midfield/forward.

Gives us flexibility on the day depending on how players are performing & opposition match ups.
