Could be a good shout to be the Macadm replacement if he continues this pre-season form? I understand the idea to put him on the wing and HB and get involved more, but he has the innate ability of knowing where the goals are.
Exactly... huge opportunity for Cook now McAdam has been traded.

He was always drafted as a slow burn, but his time is now.

We find out next season whether he really wants to make the most of his talents to stay on our list.

No, Dawson needs to play mainly midfield.

We should rotate him forward at times as a goal kicking weapon who is good overhead.

If the other team has a run on, or we we are saving the game late, he can play in defence.
I have this vision of Dawson, Curtin, Pedlar at some centre bounces as we move forward in coming years...that would be serious serious quality and some real imposing size and power in there. Then rotate laird, rankine and rachele through

When did Sloane play half back?

I just recall them moving Jones back to cover our injured defenders.

Never recalled Sloane moving back?

You obviously didn’t watch the last qtr vs Melbourne.

We had all the momentum, Dawson gets centre clearance handballs to Sloane steaming forward off the back of the square, Sloane goes to take it one handed, Sloane fumbles, Melbourne turns it over and goals.

My memory is he spent some time there early in the season, starting behind the ball - but I haven't checked, and it might be my mind playing tricks on me.

He definitely played behind the ball in a few games. I can clearly remember him taking some key marks games in that role.

Whether he lined up there I don’t think so. I reckon started on the wing and rolled back

& we have the team to make this happen as we have Pedlar, Rachele, Rankine & Soligo who can all rotate midfield/forward.

Gives us flexibility on the day depending on how players are performing & opposition match ups.

Given Dawson was going at about 85% CBA for the last 6-7 games I suspect his only resting spot will be the bench!

Am I correct that this is only the second season that we have been doing 1km time trials? I thought it was 2km before that and 3km even longer ago. If that's the case, 38 out of 41 players getting pb's isn't as impressive as it initially sounds - it's still very good though!
This is what clubs used to do in the 1990s but it was usually 5x 1km

Now seems shorter and more intense more like 3x 1km

10 years ago it was 3km time trial then 5 years ago it changed to 2km time trial

Now seems like all the clubs have gone back to the 1990s era

I think it was pretty clear last year the only reason we didn’t see Rach or Pedlar in the middle more often was tank. I am not sure why there is so much angst about our midfield and lack of build in the space. We have 2 guys who are just about there. Both attended more CBAs than Rozee or Butters at comparable career stages - and yes I know Port had a better midfield at the same stages. Doesn’t mean you just throw the kids in

Going back to round 1 2023 ….. the first centre square for us was ……

We tried to keep this as our starting mid unit for as long as possible but one of them hit the wall and the other one was out of form and played sanfl for rest of the year

The one that hit wall physically will last longer next season I have no doubt . There’s also another one that may join him in there or leapfrog him

Also next year we have Dawson and Matt crouch also as midfielders ( compared to round 1 2023 ) with Dawson likely to start games in centre square

So given there is 2 young guys with another pre season ( this isn’t counting Soligo who will also get in there ) + Dawson and crouch to be added to the 2023 round 1 midfield , it’s starting to look a hell of a lot deeper than 12 months ago

I’m still calling bullsh!t. No way Sloane broke his PB. None.
Dunno as endurance stuff is something that can get better with age eg Tex

Speed there is no way , but endurance is highly possible , you’d imagine he’s flogged himself like Boak does to try and get as fit as he’s ever been to make up for slowing down in other ways

Endurance absolutely can. I'm 31 now and running longer and faster than ever, and I've had long covid in between.

You sure?
My bad, don't know my own age!
