As we have a few leagues going at once, I thought I would start a thread for all banter, talk, and discussion for the Premier League SuperCoach competition. (And I am aware of the irony of using the term "Premier League" considering Team Grimreepah is a participant).

My ladder prediction:

Roo's Magoos
Browny's 22
Quigley
Jumper Punch
Johns Team
Fairley's Force
Lionbear Bears
The Retired Nigels

Slider's Squad
Josh's Penguins
Brisbane Dragons
The freddie factor
Belgium FC
Lethal's Lions
POBT's Plebs
The Afterlife

Strictly speaking I probably should have relegated last year. It wasn't tanking, we just stopped trying! :D

My starting squad for this year:

Def: Symes, Gram, Johncock, H.Shaw, C.Cornes, Hurn, Bradshaw, J.Edwards, Hartlett
Mids: N.Jones, Cross, Mitchell, Stevens, M.Thomas, Palmer, Bird, Grigg
Ruck: Cox, Simmonds, Leuenberger, Hampson
Forwards: J. Brown, Chapman, Schneider, Burton, A.Edwards, Porplyzia, L.Harding, K.Tippett, Gamble

Yep, a bit of a gamble all over the park. It was quite even up until Tuesday, but I decided to load on a few more young cheap mids in the hope I can trade 2-3 in later and boost the squad. I expect this strategy to net me more than the odd loss early on and fail completely as the squad is decimated by injuries and waffles... tasty waffles....

My team:

Def: J. Bowden, P. Burgoyne, H. Shaw, Gram, Hurn, Bradshaw, Ellis, Proud, Pfeiffer
Mid: Judd, Priddis, Stiller, M. Clarke, Gibbs, Stevens, Peake, Houli
Ruck: Simmonds, Leuenberger, Renouf, Tippett
Forward: Deledio, Headland, Grant, Thomas, Akermanis, Didak, Burton, Henderson, Tippett

I economised on rucks, spent little on reserves (except for Peake), avoided key position players and tried to load up on loose men in defence.

Would be happy with this. :thumbsu:

I notice you've avoided many of the "everyone will have this guy" types like Stevens, Simmonds, Nathan Thompson... if it pays off, could be a good strategy.

Doesn't SC measure more stats as well as effectiveness of stats?

Probably should have checked these before I chose a team, but here it is via supercoach board mod Kildonan:

The Supercoach scoring system:

Code:
Stat Description Points Awarded/Deducted
Effective kick 4 Points
Ineffective kick 0 Points
Clanger kick -8 Points
Handball effective 2 Points
Ineffective handball 0 Points
Handball clanger -6 Points
Handball receive 1 Point
Hardball get 4 Points
Loose-ball get 4 Points
Goal 8 Points
Behind 1 Point
Mark uncontested (maintaining possession) 1 Point
Mark contested (maintaining possession) 6 Points
Mark uncontested (from opposition) 4 Points
Mark contested (from opposition) 8 Points
Tackles 4 Points
Free kick for 4 Points
Free kick against -6 Points
Hitout to Advantage 3 Points

Now compare this with the Dream Team scoring system:

Code:
Stat Description Points Awarded/Deducted
Kick 3 Points
Handball 2 Points
Mark 3 Points
Tackle 4 Points
Free Kick For 1 Point
Free Kick Against -3 Points
Hitout 1 Point
Goal 6 Points
Behind 1 Point

Dream team misses out of LOT of performance indicators doesn't it, and while Supercoach is nowhere near a perfect indicator of overall performance, it is impressively more complete than DT.

There is so much reliable info out there this year BrownDog,
plus... yeah I know I've quoted Ignatius Jones before, but as you know "I'm not like everybody else" ;)

When someone kicks a goal does that count as an effective kick plus a goal, or do you just get points for the goal?

plus + plus Grim, and if it was a match winning goal after the siren gets "significance" points as well I think.

Also when the full back kicks out after a behind he is only credited points, if he plays on then kicks/handballs. He also gets an assist if the ball is taken by the team coast to coast for a goal..... I think.

How did you learn of this?

How did you learn of this?

Pretty sure I've read... last year? maybe even or in the introduction year of SuperCoach? Will also search around tonight through some books, might have been in the first AFL Prospectus. Will "quote" or advise later Grim.

**Edit http://www.championdata.com.au/files/rankings.pdf With a clearer and a more specific on pages 353 & 354 of the 2007 AFL Prospectus, vol.2

Must admit I haven't been factoring in goals after the siren and coast to coast goals when picking my team so yeah, obviously I've been a bit disadvantaged there.;)

By the way Fred, it seems you've dropped off the Priddis bandwagon.
