So withdrawn from a VFL game at half time with a sore knee.....next game he plays and needs surgery on a knee....very coincidental if not related...

Not coming for you as I see you've got a few replies. But meniscus tears are tricky as they often settle down relatively quickly and can be considered as "general knee soreness" e.g. knee-on-knee knock - until put under another high stress situation where the persistent problem becomes apparent.

I agree he's worth a rookie spot going forward. But I think it's a big bloody stretch to say he'd be fighting for a spot as an AA defender. He is good. Not that good imo.
I said, take the consecutive games he played earlier for us, under Bolton, and put them in this team this season, and he'd be borderline AA. It's nothing but true; he was pretty ****ing good early, and AA's the domain of top 8 sides.
And you just highlighted the problem mentioning the other blokes too. When is enough, enough? OMac should be off the list and McGovern should be on a rookie contract at best also. Hopefully we target some tall defenders in the off season.
Hey, I've been saying - for roughly the last year - that we could only keep one of Marchbank, Gov, Mcdonald and Cuningham, and I've been wanting to move Gov on and wear the cap hit to the face early for at least two seasons.

Oscar and Caleb are the ones I'd keep, the former as cheap AFL capable cover at 198cm - who has also the highest games available played % - and the latter as a transformative talent.

But there's plenty of threads to discuss list management.

Get well, all four of you. Get well, and fight to keep yourself in the game.

It's ******* bullshit, all of it.

How is a 22 year old non-injury prone Cerra pulling a hamstring 10 minutes into the game?

And Marchbank meniscus... I'm now convinced the guy has an undiagnosed connective tissue disorder, this is ridiculous. He must have low-grade Ehlers-Danlos or something.
When I saw him go down in the collision at the end of the 2nd (?) quarter, I yelled "oh no, not Marchbank!!", but then when we saw him get up, we were all like "Phew! He looks ok.". I guess we were wrong :(

Don't know what the bloke can do about another player falling across his legs.

How does Cerra pull a hamstring 10 mins in? Possibly because he was too lazy in doing warm up exercises on a cold night. As for Marchy, I think that, intuitively, you are on the money. It sounds like Marchy has a body that isn’t suited to AFL football. If that is so then he should be let go at the end of the year. Poor Vossy. So much coaching potential only to have it cruelled by persistent injuries.

Any other possible factors, or just wanting to make 1, poor assumption?

I don't understand the outrage?

Why keep someone on the list who clearly isn't built for the high intensity professional sports. I'd move on at years end. Gotta take emotion out of it.
Oh yeh, because footy has no emotion, none at all, I just rock up and watch the blokes head in front of me and cheer inanely when I’m told to, no emotion at all, “there’s a good little automaton”!
What a shit post!!
Here’s a little story I’ve already told…
Wandered down to the Franga oval to watch our baggers play the dolphins, 1/4 time huddle, stood at the back with my 10 year old, about 10 feet from Caleb, Vossy appears and heads straight to him, pats him on the back, Caleb turns and offers a pensive smile, Vossy says a few words.
The look on his face after he’d said those words was something I can only ever measure as a parent that would hurt and die for that child, it was ****ing intense, blew me out of the water.
How bout some in here remember our motto!!
You never leave a soldier behind, under any circumstances!!
I’m appalled at some of our posters tonight!

Sorry, but I had to get that off my chest!

Still could come back this year and play a part .. people are already delisting him …hopefully for his sake he has the support around him , we are all shattered .. imagine how he feels
Worse case rookie him I feel
You don't honestly believe that do you?

Zero chance we see him again this year

In the business of winning premierships. You don't do that with half your list injured. Gotta make hard decisions. That anecdote is irrelevant as it useless.

I like Caleb as much as the next supporter. Just gotta cut some guys loose sometimes.

Agree to disagree, he's nowhere near the best second/third talls in the league imo.

Agreed also, hopefully he can get his body right and have a long career.

Wishing Marchy a speedy recovery

And always love the “specialist medical” posts that get posted when a player returning from injury gets injured again. Football is such a low risk sport and the body is never vulnerable to illness or injury

As for Andrew Russell, clearly the team is a lot fitter this year.

We are so blessed to have several ‘medical experts’ amongst us.

I guess it's up to the club to sort this out. Bad luck or bad management?

I am more than sure they would know the answer. If something was wrong with our conditioning and medical department we will find out soon enough.

I have always thought you make your own luck.

Ps, I can understand the outrage from some supporters here tonight. Our whole ****ing backline and ruckman are injured. It's not a great look regardless of the cause. No need to bite their heads off!

I am leaning towards bad luck but it's starting to tip away from that in my opinion.

Weitering was clearly a contact injury so no one is too blame for that

The reality is, between Gov, Marchbank and Oscar, while Marchbank has been available for the least games he has also shown the best football. Plant the first 40 games of his career straight into our ones, and he'd arguably be fighting for an position as an all australian defender. That he's genuinely cursed is immaterial to the fact that everyone was absolutely thrilled to have him back in, and he played well in game.

The outrage comes from jumping from barely having heard the news straight to delisting. He'd be only on a rookie contract from this year, anyway; what risk there is having him on the list can be mitigated that way.

Even after all of this, he is still well worth a rookie spot.
G, I get your thinking but, as a male I’d love to hear what a sound analytical female supporter thinks. Blokes live too much in their heads without realising that, before they start intellectualising or thinking, they get captured by emotion.

I obviously have no idea about any of this stuff but I'm curious why we have significantly more injuries than anyone else.

Is it training? Recovery? Bad luck? Some kind of curse? Did someone walk under a ladder while holding a black cat on Friday the 13th

I think it's the last. 4 soft tissue injuries out of the current 10, and the only one you might question on standards is MM (and I'd bet he'll lift his game now he can see the potential of this side).

If that bloody yank can play with special sunnies surely Marchy can be allowed a wheelchair to play the next 6-8.
