Wonderful seeing the same grim reapers crawling out of their cloak to contribute here when bad news arises

I am sorry if my post was a bit too heavy handed, I have always had a positive attitude towards injuries. I trust the medical staff.

I was more saying that Sam might not make it for Round 1. Wonderful if he does but he could very well miss a good chunk of the first half of the year. But you know what? We have the depth in the squad to cover for Sam Walsh. Whatever time he misses, we are good.

Wasn't directed at you, I think you are a balanced poster

I don’t want you to think that I am attacking you but this sort of thing bugs me. Sam Walsh might be a very fit person by professional sports standards but this isn’t a movie. His back isn’t a piece of concrete slab that doesnt need to heal/rehab. He is more likely to miss the first 6-8 rounds as he is to play Round 1.
Jack Gunston had a similar operation in December one year and only played one game the next season. Prepare for the worst but hope for the best.

Once again, can you show me when Sayers said it was finals or bust?

This may help, or more likely not

Happy to wait for you to find it

Show me where this was stated:

"finals or bust"

Yeah, it’s definitely a concern. At least we know that Sam won’t half measure his rehab and will give it his best shot to be back early.

Last preseason, many were losing their minds that Walsh could miss 4-8 weeks season, he missed 1 game

Same with Kennedy, lisfranc injury, already back and looks in ripping shape and seems set for round 1

The finger was pointed at a number of people, club, Voss, AR, take your pick

The Walsh news is unfortunate, might be right for round 1, might miss half the year, or somewhere in between

But let's not create a fictious narrative and or agenda.

Well they clearly went the more aggressive option. As of last week he was going to have a nerve block.

Looks like the sceptical camp won out.

All the best Sammy, hope it all goes well
Interesting...in that you're saying we went the aggressive option vs other posters saying this type of operation is the last resort.

Wouldn't the last resort be the most aggressive option? As in you try everything else that is less aggressive first to minimise risk and then if it fails you go with the option that is most aggressive but probably has some more risks associated with it

I am extremely confident Walsh will play in Round 1.
agro, we've danced before, but if you are right, the milky bars are on me............

Getting back from injury is all about getting your running capacity back up to scratch, being a natural endurance athlete and a top level runner Walsh is likely to come back earlier rather than later. It's why guys like Marchbank and Curnow can miss years but come back early. Different story if you aren't a great runner and have had a long lay off. Optimistic about Walsh, main thing is that the surgery is successful and he recovers well from it.

DQ82 said that as of last week Walsh was going to go with the Nerve Blockers option (anaesthetic/anti-inflammatory injection), however, he had the surgery yesterday.

Seem to recall that Walsh was supposed to miss approximately the first month last season as well. In the end he missed one game, which we won, and was rusty for the next few, most of which we also won.

Impossible to know if the injury recovery will track the same way this time, but I expect the team performance to be similar.

This injury sounds a lot more serious than the syndesmosis injury last time around given he has basically been impaired since August with this back problem.

I’m sure he’ll give himself every chance to be back ASAP but I hope the club and the player get the management of this injury right as this has the potential to impact his future long term, and he’s too important for that.

Also I think we have reasonably good depth in the midfield so I think we can cover him well enough without impacting results so there should be no need to rush him back.

Finals or bust, was poetic license. My bad. But expectation set was finals. As always, you can play with semantics

Inside source for second coment.

There are literally as many ‘experts’ advising the club/Walsh on this injury as there are posting about it on here today.

No, when you are making a claim, semantics, nor creative license should be used

Inside source, of a conversation that was had 6 weeks before the end of the season, being shared now? A little too convenient for me
