Having a buldging disk myself, which flairs up from time to time and pinches on a nerve causing horrible sciatica. I know how frustrating this injury can be.

I also know how quickly it can just seem to go away though.

Once Walsh gets it right, I'm sure he will be able to keep it under control.

I'm 35 now and it's been under control for a few years with no flair ups. Try to run about 70kms per week and the back has been holding up fine with that... obviously not playing any contact sports anymore though.

I'm very confident Walsh will bounce back. Consimate professional who will leave no stone un turned in his re-hab.

In the meantime it's a huge opportunity for someone to stand up.

Either Doc into the midfield and someone else to stand up down back.

Or Dow/ Carroll et al to step up and lock down a spot.

It sucks big time we won't have worpa there early season, but let's get him right for the finals campaign.

Still very optimistic for our 2023 campaign.

As I posted last week I was told it was a nerve block procedure not an operation. Clearly they decided to go another way.

All we can do is trust them.

Have a good Christmas everyone

This is similar to the Intel I had heard too. I was a bit shocked this morning given the drastic difference in the two.

It tells me one of two things but both are speculative. Either something has happened in the time between that option being the preferred option or they discovered a greater level of damage when he was undergoing the procedure that necessitated the surgery.

What I do know is that they don't do the surgery unless it's their only viable path forward and we're unlikely to see the reasoning published as Sam does have a level of confidentiality and it's unimportant for us, doesn't change the fact that the surgery was performed, in the grand scheme of things.

Apparently Bulging disks can repair themselves so it would seem logical to go down a conservative path for a period of time. Surgery is a much riskier option regardless of how often results are positive.

Think we now have the depth to cover and opportunity potentially knocks for someone.

It's not necessarily the disc that is the main concern but what the disc is doing to the nerves themselves. Once nerves are fried they're very difficult to do anything about. They're either dead or they can go to sleep (the longer the less likely of recovery though spinal surgeon advised that the human body is an amazing thing and they can 'wake up' a long time into the future, etc.)

No, when you are making a claim, semantics, nor creative license should be used

Inside source, of a conversation that was had 6 weeks before the end of the season, being shared now? A little to convenient for me

Unless there's published evidence of this it screams bullshit to me. This isn't how spinal injuries work. I'm happy to take what Vossy has previously said on the matter at the time (as opposed to covering their ass as they would be now if that was true) as how it played out. Walsh pleading to play against Melbourne before the club moved to a hard no the following week.

I'm sure he had some level of complaint before they but a club simply doesn't do what is suggested by that statement. It doesn't sound right medically not does it read right legally.

Lol at bring on Jack Carroll, Hollands type of comments... just LOL

We aren't replacing batteries here..

You're right. However, with one player out it presents an opportunity to that 23rd or so ranked player to break through and stamp themselves onto the team.

For every negative outcome there comes an opportunity to make a positive out of it elsewhere

I may be wrong but I feel like I've heard mumblings in the past of Princes Parks surface not being the be best and perhaps also contributing to our injuries.

Iirc it was the hardness of the surface as opposed to instability or anything like that.

Maybe I'm wrong but perhaps someone else can confirm that this has been mentioned once or twice in the past?
It’s not our training grounds that are of concern, more Marvel Stadium. Concrete not too far below the playing surface.

Or Cuners?

The fact that the club said they will be able to provide more clarity around his return "after" the first month of the season suggests to me they have already ruled him out for the first month.
Exactly what i thought.

Is anyone surprised by this? The media sniffed out that something was wrong and the club struggled to disabuse anyone of that notion.

Anyway, hope Sam has a speedy recovery. But please do not rush him back.

Once again, can you show me when Sayers said it was finals or bust?

This may help, or more likely not

Happy to wait for you to find it
And what actually does bust mean? 😄 Definitely don't recall Sayers using that word. Expectation was used, but really, as Ricky Bobby's dad once said, "if you ain't first, you're last"

And Merry Christmas to you ya miserable prick :thumbsu:
cheers, fella - just wish my ingrown toenail would heal and quit leaking cuticofluid all over the place - bloody lying foot surgeon.........

Hope your all well mate. I had the same emergency surgery because of the cauda equina nerves being impacted. 5 years on i am not the same and still have flare ups from time to time and i am in no way a professional athlete.

I wish Sam all the best but i would not expect him to play for at least half the season.

The fact that they delayed his surgery should inform us that it was not severe enough to go straight to this option, that it was considered that it may come good with conservative Mx . Now that it hasnt improved, does not negate the fact that it wasnt considered severe enough for surgery straight away.

Add the fact that the loads that Sam will be placing on it as a professional athlete, and this might have tipped the decision for Surgery compared to an amateur player- in other words he may have got away without surgery if he wasnt an AFL player. I will add to this, the fact that in the range of AFL players, I feel that Sam would place more stress on his back than most other players due to his never say die attitude.

All in all I feel that Sams attitude to his football and training, will hold him in good stead for a speedier than normal recovery. Russel, despite the shade thrown at him by many on BF is a good operator and will get Sam back to his very best as quickly as possible.

Round 5 return for mine

They're all different. Microdiscetomy in and of itself is a fairly minor procedure, patients usually go home day after.

Let's see how he recovers.

Or Cuners?
Im an unabashed fan of Cuners. Massive point of difference for our team.

Another who just needs a clean run at injuries. If he can get going this year it would be massive.

Last chance saloon for him I think.
