According to Voss Saad had some hamstring tightness towards the end of the match. Reading between the lines we benched him as a precaution once we were out of the game. McGovern issues with calf during the week, trained fully but then pulled up sore in the warm-up. Didnt want to take any risks. Pitto no concussion. Was struggling to see out of his eye after the cut.

At face value with a 10 day break no reason all 3 shouldn't be available. Though given our record of players missing months with "tightness" we will have to wait and see.
Did JSos get injured?

Do we know if doch's meniscal surgery is to the same knee he had both his ACLs on? It's almost certain that he would've had meniscal cleanouts included at both recos & now to have a 3rd shave out of the same meniscus would mean there is very very little cartilage remaining in the knee, leaving it very close to being bone on bone. Hopefully it was the other knee or at the very least the lateral meniscus instead of the medial one usually implicated in ACL injuries.
Bone on bone aint fun.

Seen him not able to lift his right arm up at one point but he stayed on field but obviously could not help in ruck for a bit. Cripps reluctantly took some ruck battles and seemed to be asking Jack if he was right to go. I think I saw Jack take the ruck duel a few minutes later but I not sure wheher he lifted his right arm. I assume it was something minor and hurt for a bit and ok later.

Play Kemp as the third tall defender.
Give him the chance to make the position his long term.
McGovern playing every now and then and Marchbank once in a blue moon is unsustainable.
Enough’s enough …
Been that way for a while imo, in terms of what we should have been doing last season.
Do not know what happened in off season for Kemp not be in the side but it incredibly frustrating as a Carlton supporter to see how unreliable enigma Mitch is and we got a young talented guy we should be developing and it slows our whole teams progress to not have him in side and last night happens. Mitch is a good user of ball and good intercept mark but the problem is he is totally unreliable in so many ways like round one match and now this seconds before start of match.
Kemp has all the talent to be really excellent in a role we cannot trust Mitch to do well for more than a couple of weeks in a row without something horribly going wrong a week or two either side.
We cannot try to build anything around Mitch or Marchbank with confidence so it should be Kemp full steam ahead unless he has issues too with breaking down when wind changes direction. The other two should be seen as back up when they actually available.

What is the best way to prevent a calf injury? Hurt one of mine last year and it took like 5 months to get better
ive been having calf issues also...since mid to late last year. had a good break from sports for ~2 months and got back into it this year. was ok but it is slowly coming back. ive had massage and 2 physio give me care/advice.

according to physios...need to gradually strengthen the muscles and do warm up before training/playing and do a good cool down session with stretches etc afterwards.

Thanks for the reply. I do try to do stretches but it never feels like it is doing anything. Hope you can avoid more issues

Funnily I used sleep on my stomach and had chronic calf and Achilles issues on and off for years, hanging my feet off the edge of the bed helped as the calf and Achilles were no longer in pointe all night and the sports injuries I could never quite recover from cleared up.

Sounds dumb and in retrospect, kind of was.

Funny coincidence also, only the last 3 years I have started to sleep on my stomach and I've since started to have shoulder issues. Wonder if that's just a bad idea for a few reasons, thanks for the response

Not sure if trimming the meniscus is a given with ACL repairs. I have a reco back in 1988, meniscus was left untouched until it tore in 2013. It's been downhill since then, looking at a replacement in the next few years.

Time to try someone other than Russell. He hasn’t succeeded. No one could do worse. He hasn’t rejuvenated a single player experiencing repeat soft tissue injuries (Martin, McGovern, Philp, Cuners, Owies).

He has no success stories. Some would say Charlie. But it seems Charlie was more corrective surgery rather than anything Russell did.

The volume of stress related injuries at the club is hopeless.

That he said in a podcast this year he ‘still does pretty much the same things’ as he’s always done regarding conditioning is very alarming.

His great wisdom now is having the riskier players do less load. And take longer off after injury. Hasn’t worked.

Pies made a change and it brought massive benefits to them.

Time to give someone else a go. Can’t be any worse.

I think they will monitor Russell’s team throughout the season before making any changes, they had a shake up last summer in that area, i would be surprised if they moved him on 5 months later.

On the upside if he is paid as much as they say, and we get someone for less, the club will have more $ for other coaches.

I am trying not to think too much about this situation because I doubt anything changes in the short term, but I would appreciate a little more transparency on the timelines. Where are Cunners and Marchy atm? Yep both injury prone, know that. Would still like an idea of their likely return

Agree with the comments on transparency. The paying fans I’m sure would love to hear what we are trying differently with the likes of Martin. It’s not a personal situation. So explain it.

Given the long run of a very poor track record with injuries it’s reasonable to expect better than normal updates on players with recurring problems.

Don't twist my post out of context. You act like you don't want injury transparency? But every time there is an update on them you get in and discuss them

Easy, it was both you and Windows and many others, so don't be so precious

I couldn't give a stuff about a blow by blow running commentary of the status of each player, what they drink, eat, sleep or whether they run 3kms, or 3.2kms

But if you or others are leaning on this so called transparency, this need to know, then you would struggle supporting any team. Even if there is a changing of the guard, the level of transparency you seek, won't change

My Osteo says never ever sleep on your stomach.

What podcast interview was this? I remember him saying a similar thing I think on the Dyl and Friends podcast not long after he came to Carlton.

It’s difficult to truly judge how well he has done without inside info but to hear he has no interest in looking for new ideas and techniques that might help players is pretty cooked.
