Gaff trade gets eagles enough currency for kelly. Maybe gaff for next years 1st with a 2nd rounder coming back. Next years first plus pick 14 ontraded for kelly and a geelong player or pick.

My understanding is Gaff would be an UFA. eagles would still get picks for kelly via the FA compensation.

It's quite a complicated issue down here. You're right about the interest in footy, definitely a football state but that means everyone down here already has a team they've supported all their life. North and Hawthorn have done some great work here already and won a lot of fans but St Kilda, Richmond, Carlton and Collingwood have rich histories and strong followings here. I'm a fourth generation Carlton fan, I've supported the club for over 30 years and live in Launceston. I'm not sure a club in Hobart would interest me that much.

The population is more spread out than any other state. Hobart is the only capital city in Australia that has less than 50% of the state's population. Hobart has also always had a bit of a struggle making AFL games work. It would take a lot of effort to get Blundstone arena up to scratch as well as fixing the parking and transport issues. UTAS stadium has always done a much better job but how do you justify a city of 80,000 people getting a team before a 180,000 people capital city.

Then there's the issue of sponsorship. Not many businesses in Tassie big enough to sponsor an AFL team. Only one I can think of is federal group and they've been far more interested in saving money than spending it since the gambling restrictions came in in 2012. The feeling here is that the government would get publicly lynched if they sponsored another AFL team while leaving health and emergency services and the crime rate in such a poor state.

Don't believe everything you read on Twitter, it would be very hard to make an AFL team here succeed.

Honestly, this just reads like tired propaganda. Every single talking point here has been regurgitated by opponents of a Tassie team for the last thirty years. I've heard it all. Problem for you is, they've all been debunked. The business case for our team has been put forward by the steering group and it's rock solid. The state government contributes towards the team, redirecting money from the Hawks and Kangas, along with some more to make the club sustainable. It's a brilliant investment for them. Games bring in huge numbers of tourists every year. The local economy benefits. That's money allocated in the state budget. It has support of all parties in Tasmania. It's the most rock solid, reliable, and safe kind of income a sports team could ever have.

On top of that, we'd have absolutely no trouble attracting major sponsors. Companies would line up to be attached to a Tasmanian team that would be universally loved, unlike GWS or GC, who most supporters see as fake. We've been part of the State of Origin since the 70s. We've been part of TAC cup. We're a heartland state. We have a rusted on, passionate, dedicated fan base. It's just pure FUD to say that Tassie locals won't support the team. We're screaming out for our own team. We're sick and tired of waiting for it to happen. Look at the groundswell of support for the latest proposal. It has huge momentum, so much so that we've actually, finally managed to get the AFL to listen and take us seriously, even though they don't want another team.

It obvious to everyone at this stage that games would be playing in both Launceston and Hobart. To suggest otherwise is just silly. It's a state team and it will play for the whole state. The Tigers play north and south. Our footy team will too.

So what do people think realistically are our chances of picking up both Martin and Papley?

#Bluemour

Gold Coast looking for help getting Greenwood without giving up one of their top 20 picks. Possibly will be our future second to Adelaide in a roundabout 3 way trade.

Wonder if the Crows would go for another Stocker type trade?

Carlton's 2020 Round 1 -> Adelaide
Greenwood -> GC
Adelaide's 2020 round 1 pick -> us
Martin -> us

We gamble with the Crows. They want to beat us by a couple of spots like they did this year to go for it.
GC and we both get our guy.
