I was going to go as far as Butler but I’d like Cuningham to stand up and hold his spot.
Happy enough for Butler to work his way in, but should not be recruited with the promise of best 22. Depends on how Eddie holds up and how deep we start Paps/Cuners. Should we recruit them both.
Of course he'll say that.
But they'll settle for an early second for sure.
But they're posturing to say that our 2020 2nd rounder isn't enough...but hopefully SOS can push that deal through in the end. That pick is likely going to be mid 20's and i think that's fair.

It's just posturing. Basic negotiation skills 101. Ask for more than what you're willing to accept initially, so when the compromise inevitably occurs, you still get what you want and look to be a reasonable party to deal with in the future.
Most likely it'll get done for a future second round pick and maybe a late exchange.
Sorry if already been mentioned or if you can disclose? is the player a native to the state he's playing in? Cheers...
It might not seem like much but we have taken a hit to our forward ‘depth’ in Pickett, lebois, fasolo, Garlett (I think he was a forward) and Kerr all departing this year. Easily could take all the names being mentioned and not be wasting spots.

Agree, although not all would be in the same best 22 team if we had no injuries when you do up a mock Round 1 2020 team.
So they would have to come knowing that, particularly Butler. And maybe even Betts if his form falls away.
The other question would be whether it's worth paying someone like Butler whatever we've offered if he's primarily going to be a depth player? Or are we better off drafting a small forward on base wages.
Sorry to keep harping on about it but it keeps bugging me. Adding Papley and Martin to our mid/ forward set up will make us versatile and dangerous when we have the ball. Our commonly proposed back 6 will be the slowest in the competition however. I think we need a re-think about the composition of the side, better to be proactive now than targeted next season and beyond.
Exactly right. Replace a swag of guys who have proven they can't do it at AFL level for a swag of guys who have proven they CAN.
Papley - gun. One of the best small forwards in the league, energetic - the spark plug our team is missing. Rotates through midfield with impact. Potentially a 8-10 year acquisition. Worth about pick 12-15, so he'll cost us pick 9 with some swap shenanigans.
Martin - more flank/wing than small forward, but adds that skillful, rangey goal-kicker with good, dual-sided kicking we DEFINITELY do not have. Lots of footy left, hopefully his best. Even if we just get what he does, he is worth it in our 22, IMHO, and the upside is significant. Worth pick 20 or so, likely will cost one of next year's picks.
Betts - one of the greatest small forwards of all time. 12-18-24 months of footy left, max. You do it for the romance, for the mentoring, and cos he'll cost pick 70.
Butler - squeezed out of the best side in the comp in a position they're VERY strong. Doing great in VFL. Will cost a pick in the 40s. Young, fast, tackles. Too good value to miss on in a position we suck at.
Buy the lot, SOS. Do it.

At the end of the day Butler is a borderline AFL level player. He may be good for us or he might not. Eddie turns 34 next year and plays in a position where he will have an opponent every game (similar to getting tagged every week) not just floating around the backline getting away on smarts like Hodge and Simpson so it’s hard to know if he will fall off a cliff. Imo we should be chasing both purely for insurance.

We can just put 600k deal in front of him for 4 years. Let’s see if GC wanna waste that for a player that won’t play. He gets paid by GC to not be there. He can just get another job to add to his sick salary.

My guess is Cerra. I have absolutely no inside word but he seems like a SOS/Carlton type.
Our future first is pretty close to his value if not spot on.
