I'd argue that in patches in 2016-17 - his final two years with us - he absolutely was a superstar. He won games we had no right winning in that year.

I think Gibbs' reputation and calibre of player is rated where it is because he played with us for most of his career and then played in Adelaide as they self destructed. If he played for Collingwood (for example) over the same period, he'd be ranked a good deal higher.

Under the proper tutelage, in a properly run club and system in developing their players and under a strongly led leadership, he would have been a much more competitive and complete player, along with some others would have been every chance of achieving greater progress as well…

Likely LOB and or Ramsay, signs are telling me Gibbons probably gone. That seems the way it is playing out unless we find suitors for McGov, Fish or Setters, could handle the first two, as prefer JSOS to Gov and reckon Durdin, Honey, Fogarty and perhaps Owies offer as much as Fish, albeit with less flash(if Fish got back to basics and put in more gym hours would likely have them covered), but reckon Setters down year was more injury, role and resultant demotivation. Have heard Dow is on the table for right offer, but may be B.S. Sooner or later we are going to have to rationalise our midfield stocks though so wouldn’t stun me.

Personally I reckon we could use another key defender in the best 22 - allows 1 of Jones & Weitering to focus more on intercepts.

Think of Harry Petty or even a David Astbury that freed up the May/Lever or Rances

Fair enough comment. Petty isn't actually that good, but disciplined (and it helps playing behind a good 2 way midfield).

Ideally Marchbank becomes our Lever. Becoming less likely due to injury but we would have some weapons down back should that happen.

You made a large post about why his career perhaps didn't reach the heights we'd have liked, most of which I agreed with btw, then admitted he didn't reach his potential. Yet maintain that's not underachieving and now are being cute with definitions.

He had a good career. It should've been better, but that's ok.

I thought he wasn’t ready, he had a good patch of games mid year when moved up the ground in the reserves where he had a stronger influence and numbers with the ball, maybe a little unlucky but a few others that deserved games before him that weren’t given opportunities that should have before him…
When it came to overall teamselection this year it was somewhat of a joke, double standards and incompetence were top of the list…

Marchbank is contracted and highly rated- he’s going nowhere.

I’d say it’s looking like Gibbons and Cottrell are definitely gone. Boyd and Parks could go either way. Would definitely be holding onto LOB and Ramsay though. We really lack that outside run, so it would be madness to let either of those two go.

Edit: If that’s true about Newnes triggering a contract extension, I have to say I’m disappointed by that if it squeezes out LOB or Ramsay. I get that role players like that were the key to Teague trying to save his job, but it’s time to get these kids in and see what they’ve got. We can’t keep drafting these kids, not playing them, and losing them for peanuts (or diabolically for nothing).

Two second rounders in this years draft after landing Cerra would give us a great chance for landing a couple of really good players/needs MB…
