Giving up pick 8 for Saad was over paying. In my opinion he is over rated and does fu** all. All he does is run for the sake of running and just kicks and hopes.
Let me put it this way. By every metric the Bulldogs overpaid for Tom Boyd. Not one of their supporters think that they did because of one game.

If we win the 2023 grand final with Adam Saad winning the norm Smith medal and Corey Durdin (secured in a round about way as part of the deal) kicks 5 would we then have overpaid?

Clearly trades, just like draft picks, can only be judged at the end of the players career. You are only making a (puerile) judgement probably on whether you consider that we won the deal over dodo.

Aramari don’t be so silly, we have Jack Silvagni who is a more competent ruckman than Brodie Grundy and a great 2nd option to TDK if you ask some people on this page 😝😝😝

Why the hell would we need to address our blindingly obvious ruck issues 😂
Lol at you lacking the stones to tag me.

If we win the 2023 premiership it wouldn't be because of Saad and Durdin won't be in the team. I'm making my judgement on the deal because I don't think Saad is anything more than an average player and we over paid

Saad was one of our better performers for the majority of the year. He only fell away towards the end, but the whole team was unravelling by then. Of the 4 recent big name pick ups of Williams, Martin, McGovern and himself, he has clearly been the most consistent performer.

I think Saad acquitted himself very well, I'm a massive fan. I actually think he was carrying some sort of leg injury too and our club doesn't seem to be very forthcoming when it comes to injuries, but that's just an opinion.

It won't change the fact that we are the only club ever to have paid such a very high price for someone like Saad, many of us think unnecessarily so. It doesn't make you any less of a supporter to admit we got our pants pulled down on the trade. You can think it's a good trade sure, but we are the only club ever to have paid such a price for a small/medium defender that's more than half way through his career. That is indisputable. Some of us are miffed as to why.

durdin has every chance of cementing him self in the 22 by 2023

and feel the need to continually bleat about it..........as saad slams the sealer through in the 2024 grand final - this clown jumps on his seat screaming about how much we paid for him.........unbelievable......

There's no need to resort to name calling, but I'm probably continuing to bleat about that to deaf ears. I have as much right to post about it when it's brought up as the person saying it. Not sorry that it doesn't suit you.

Saad is a good chance to finish top-5 in the B&F. When was the last time one of our draftees in the 6-10 range did that? Jordan Russell in 2010?

Interesting that you want to put such a small range on that. How many players in the 6-10 range do we even have on our list? 3 is my count. How many have we even taken in the last decade or so in such a small range of picks?

Of our B&F winners, you have to go back to 2013 to find a winner that wasn't originally taken even in the first round of the draft. Also, of the 3 that were taken in the arbitrary 6-10 range on our list, I reckon the bloke the won the Coleman has a chance to finish in the top 5 this year.

If we really think it’s gonna make us climb into that top 6 range, I’d look at Mitchell for our 2022 1st if we could get a 3rd coming back.
I don’t think a club can trade it’s first round pick away in three consecutive years

I chose that range because that was (roughly) what we actually paid for Saad. Pick 8 when traded, pick 10 on the day, something like that? And I knew we had a few in that range, most of whom have not shown as much as Saad at any stage. For whatever, reason, we seem to have done better later in the first round. Less pressure, perhaps.

I'm sure McKay will get it done this year, just wanted to carefully excise him from my criteria :thumbsu:

Hawthorn won't trade their captain. And they would barely improve their draft hand by getting rid of him, nobody would give anything of value to bring him into their club.

They need to turn over the older guys and have been ruthless in the past so I don’t think McEvoy being captain would stop them trading him but your point is well made that trading McEvoy wouldn’t improve their trade hand.

I do like him as a mentor for our younger rucks and a last resort option if we get injuries however.
