How the afl allows GC to continuously throw ridiculous trades and picks is beyond me. They just got robbed!
It's ridiculous.

GC just blow draft picks like nothing. Let players walk for free instead of take good 2nd round picks.

AFL let's it all happen then just tops them up with more priority picks.

I believe most people are disappointed we overpaid/overvalued his worth for essentially a half back flanker, on the back of obtaining another half back flanker in Saad, was not smart recruitment at all.

Get ready for the dislike squad and to be called a "numpty".

This is what happens when you play SPS out of position for five years and then barely play him in his final year. We got what we deserved.

What? SPS was “played out of position” because he didn’t have the fitness, stamina or capability to play in the midfield. He couldn’t defend, he was poor when we didn’t have the ball, and his kicking gave us little advantage. Teague tried to hide SPS in the back line and then tried to send him to the VFL to get some form but it didn’t work. If West Coast can afford to carry a one way runner in their midfield then good luck to them and SPS. But we couldn’t when we already carry Cripps and others. With Voss and our other coaches seemingly wanting mongrel and intent there was little chance SPS would get a game for he in 2022 or beyond.

These days, it is very rare that a team trades for an established 90+ game player for a late pick and that players becomes anywhere near an A grader.

Lyons was the rare case who I think was picked up as a free agent? Nick Hind was a great pick up for Ess but he only played 20 odd games at the time. Sometimes players in their late 20's or 30's (especially ruckman) go for late and produce good footy but not all that often. If the deal seems to good to be true, it generally is.

Think about the Hawks. It seemed that every year the narrative was that the Hawks got these amazing deals with Patton, Scully and last year, Phillips using late picks. None have done anything of note.

So in the case of SPS, who has played 94 games going for a pick in the 50's, the likelihood that he plays the rest of his career at the level of a 1st rounder is extremely low. I'm not saying it can't happen because he has been played out of his position but I would not be too concerned with him going on and having a great career at WCE.
