Samo played mid for the first three and a half years of his career - telling that we can count the memorable games on one hand

problem was how memorable those games were.

Collingwood and Bulldogs games were both amazing, crazy to think he has the ability to do that but then the other games he plays be so ordinary.

We’re trying to re-enter the first round. Future first is up for grabs for the right deal.

Depending on the pick we get back, we may not yet be done with trade week just yet (the better the pick, the more currency we have for another trade).
Tell me more about this 'another trade' you speak of. I figured there'd be something in our plans given how quickly we've wrapped things up with our key targets.

SPS will be a must watch career at WCE - will he become the player we all envisioned he would become if played in the right spot or is what we got who he is...

Only if you are a masochist...

Fact is, he doesn't really fit our list right now. He's never played well for us as a forward. He doesn't fit into a midfield that has Cripps/Walsh/Cerra/Hewitt as better options ahead of him. He doesn't fit in a backline where we have committed heavily to Saad and Williams. And he's 24, miserable, and wants to go home. Good luck to him at West Coast - if he succeeds, then the move was a success for everyone, really.

Today, we have upgraded from SPS to Cerra (and got younger) in the midfield and added a young, flexible KPD. OUR list is stronger as a result.

FWIW I reckon Lewis Young might be a very underrated acquisition. Jones has been decent at full back but has his limitations and is 30. We had absolutely no injury cover in defence as well. Young has great size and is ready to step into a full time role, if not this year, then in the future.

:eekv1:

Time to post some more 'well thought out and realistic' trade scenarios...

So we currently have Pick 25 and 62. So that means in order to meet minimum three picks, we either have to:

-split 25 for multiple later picks
-trade back in using players or futures
-pick very late in the draft
-Elevate rookies
Reckon Kennedy will be back on the Senior List so we may well only take 2 live picks at the draft.

Would have liked to have pushed the Cerra deal a bit more so that we picked up either 61 or 69 from freo - very much depends on how many selections we take in the national draft (or if our 3rd pick is a rookie upgrade) - overall though I'm ok with the price paid for cerra

We must've been pretty keen to move SPS on.

Must be something the rumours that he didn't look good post review and moving him on was a culture move.

Just from people on here, we’ve heard SPS can’t kick over a tin of jam, can’t kick 40 metres, is soft in the contest, won’t tackle, hasn’t got a tank, not overly quick, has only played 3 good games in his career, not desperate enough.

Early second rounder please 🥴

I look forward to the next ten years of “who won the SPS trade” discourse.
Will be interesting to follow. If Samo can't break into the Eagles best 22, due to reported poor preparation. We might be celebrating the deal if Lewis takes over from Jonesy....but on the other hand if Samo finishes top 5 in their B & F. :'(

I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.

Who we would consider shipping a future first rounder for?

Tom Mitchell came to mind, but with the addition of Hewett and Cerra I don't really see that being a worthwhile use of assets.

Port apparently want a first rounder for Ladhams, but I don't know that he fits in our starting 22 alongside TDK, Harry and Charlie, so once again not a great use of assets.

The backline is sorted, don't see us chasing anyone to add down there.

A quality winger would be a need, potentially, depending on how we plan to use Walsh and Cerra.

Forward line could benefit from a top shelf medium or small, but there aren't any obvious targets I can think of who would be valued in the first round (ie. Gunston worth a third at best).

I'd consider flicking our future first for a first rounder this year on draft night, if we see a player we like on the board. Still love the look of Wangeneen-Milera as a winger with elite disposal.

I reckon I could count less than a handful of his 93 games where he played the entire game as a mid. 2 of those were against the Dogs and Pies in 2017 and 2019.

The Dogs game he had 35 disposals, 7 clearances and a goal.

The Pies game he had 21 and 2 goals.

He had the talent, we just didn't know how to use it.

You answered your question in your first sentence. SPS didn’t play an entire game as a mid because he physically wasn’t able to. He did not have the stamina or the will. That’s why he couldn’t defend or chase the other team when they had the ball. I was a fan of SPS too but then I saw the comments and analysis of those who watch the game when we don’t have the ball and I realized that SPS did little to nothing and was a liability on the field. When you start looking on the TV to see who is behind the ball in the background you see people like Owies running and applying pressure behind the ball and then you SPS and Murphy stagnant.

SPS had the talent to be a first round pick but he didn’t have the determination to push his body or mind to maximize his ability. West Coast will rebuilding for a year or two so he may get away with not covering the ground for them but I don’t think he is going to ever be an A grade player.

more in regard to SPS himself, i dont care we have gotten rid of him. But ill be interested to see if he becomes a decent player or not (ive got a feeling he doesnt have that elite attitude/work ethic)

Honestly can see him drifting out of AFL now ..

Spicy… hope we’re targeting outside run.

Ok, things are falling into place. Yes, I'm one of those who am a tad peeved about the SPS and 52 pick BUT if Cerra fires, and Young slots in as a 3rd tall, ruck chop-out etc...it may be a case of SPwho?

I wish SPS all the best, just not against us.
