Why is Damien Ferret mentioning Scarlett as a potential assistant coach in his Sliding Doors segment? Last I heard was he’s taking a year off, unless something has changed.

Things change.

I
Just did. See, no hands!

Jack Silvagni is a) already on our list, b) has just started to truly step into his talent, and c) will not cost draft picks and a 500 thousand + contract. He's played as a second ruck/extra mid for the entire second half of the year, and he has arguably outperformed Grundy over that time.

People overrated taps, and they especially overrated Grundy's taps.

You're wrong, but thaty's okay.

Um...

You might want to have a look at the stats there, mate. Their hitout dominance translated into a mere 2 centre square clearances more; this despite us being one of the weakest clearance sides in the comp.

Dispense with your preconceptions. It'll do you a world of good.

I absolutely am underselling Grundy as a ruckman, but that isn't why I don't want him. I don't want him because he dramatically changes how we approach our ruck and midfield setup in ways that I do not think will be sustainable or will serve us well in finals.

Agreeing to disagree is something that happens after a conversation, not after one post. Do you not think you can convince me to your point of view?
It’s quite clear by your responses that you’re not one that’s worth wasting time on trying to convince. People have differing opinions and that’s fine, we completely disagree. But why waste time arguing over a forum to actually prove nothing. It’s purely opinion no right, no wrong, hence let’s agree to disagree.

Nope. No thanks. We need another young backup or an experienced stop gap for depth. That's all.

If we were going to chase a new #1 ruck would be far more interested in Lobb noting he is open to a pay cut/revised contract spread.
People seem to forget apart from moving home a big part of Lobb’ move to Fremantle was because he didn’t want to be a ruckman he wanted to be a key forward. But let’s rather chase blokes for position that they don’t want to play in and don’t do a great job of anyway.

...which is exactly what we need! Neither Pitto nor TDK are any good up forward. He can jump in for forward stoppages.

So we Welcome Hewett today?

On SM-G988B using BigFooty.com mobile app
Pretty sure that we can table our offer today but as a restricted free agent the swans have till the end of the set period to determine whether they will match (which they gave indicated they wont).

At the end of the period (think early next week?) if unmatched then he becomes our player.

... so, you come onto a forum and you ask for opinion on something, then when you get someone who disagrees you withdraw on the basis that I'm not worth wasting your time convincing?

One wonders how you interact with people away from the internet.

Because we weren't arguing, we were discussing your idea to trade for Grundy.

You clearly don't want to talk to me. One wonders when I shat in your cereal, but hey.

Finlayson is one we should seriously be talking too. Word is he is looking for greater support for his partner/wife in the wake of starting a family. There is ties in Melbourne when she lived here previously. SA is not the only place he is looking at. A 196cm 25yo KP player that has runs on the board - why wouldn’t we? Sell him on CHB being his. Jones can move to the Peter Dean type role.

The big kid from the dogs isn’t panning for fools gold to be fair. He’s got a two year contract in front of him and expected to re-sign. They’d be filthy if he and Lipinski walk. We don’t need him anyway, unless he rucks 80/20, which I don’t think he does. He’s more a key forward. I like what we’re doing in our front half.

Tyson Stengle - No. Ring the Tigers if we want an indigenous forward and see if Stack or even Rioli are available for trade.
We don't recruit players because they're indigenous.

You said he’s not a tap ruckman and Silvagni plays the role as well as him which is absolute horse shit, you aren’t even worth conversing with when you hold rubbish views like that.

So the quality of the player doesn’t come into it?

Of course. You build your game (hopefully) around your strengths - and for us it would be around Cripps, Walsh, C Curnow, Harry, Weiters and Jones.

If you give a Newnes a role and he plays that role, would you consider replacing him? Yes, if you can get a much much better version for minimal cost - which is unlikely. If you did consider replacing him with a higher priced version then you would have to sacrifice something else (ie, lose another role player). Otherwise, no. He's a keeper for mine.

Look at the teams that have been successful. Richmond built up a solid group based around playing your role (Caddy, Aarts, Graham, Vlaustin, Houli, Prestia the list goes on but hardly stars by any means). Melbourne likewise.

I think the salary cap will bite us big time in a few years, so I hope we can get some success soon.

That is the issue, Newnes etc do not play there role well enough for us to be a contender.

The issue we have is, we have a team full of role players and not enough top end talent. A lot of our guys who play week in week our should be our depth players.
I think our top end is good. It's our role players that are below par. The games we won this year we're mostly on brilliance from guys like Walsh and Harry rather than system and players do their jobs consistently.

You said he’s not a tap ruckman and Silvagni plays the role as well as him which is absolute horse sh*t, you aren’t even worth conversing with when you hold rubbish views like that.
Again, consider whether this is how you want to purport yourself. This is a forum, not a chatbot domain. We're going to disagree and agree with each other at alternates, but the fact of the matter is if you cannot take someone disagreeing with you or the notion that you might be wrong without being rude or abusive, this might not be the best venue for you.

Secondly, he's not a tap ruckman. He averages the most HO's in 2021, but is only fourth on the HO to advantage differential ladder (given that those stats aren't released to the public, the best you can do is here:
)

He's the third most likely to win a positive differential for raw hit outs and averages the most HO's in 2021, but he only sits 4th on the ladder as a ruckman who sits in the ruck the whole time; he's not hitting to advantage nearly enough from those raw taps.

He averages 19.1 disposals a game, 4.2 tackles, and 4 clearances; that is the basis by which I say he is less a pure tap ruckman and more an extra midfielder, and it is on this basis that I make the comparison to Jack. From rounds 16-20 - when we played him as that second ruck - he averaged 19.4 disposals, 3.4 tackles, and 2 clearances a match; not as good certainly, but not the difference between what we're paying Jack and what Grundy's on bad, either.

The point of making this analysis is that Jack is not even our first ruck; that's TDK. TDK is a tap ruckman, of the Natanui bent; he leaps over his opponent and wins the tap. He has significant ground to make up before he gets there, but he's very young for a ruckman.

Why are we hamstringing TDK to bring in Grundy, when we have a second ruck we're getting roughly the same contribution from?

If you want to continue to disagree, that's fine. But this is a forum, not the inside of your head, and out here we converse civilly.

If we were looking at Dunstan, then I anticipate we are considering trading Dow to the tigers. We'd probably be interested for their pick 15 if it was available.

Hewett and Dunstan in as Free Agents
Cerra for Pick 6
Pick 15 for Dow (Richmond)
Pick 49 for SPS (West Coast)
L. Young for pick 49 (effectively what they paid for him)

Midfield changes:
Out: Murphy, Dow, Curnow, SPS (acknowledging some werent pure mids)
In: Stocker, Cerra, Hewett, Dunstan

Williams plays half back and rotates with Stocker
