FWIW I’m not unhappy about this news.
Baker is undeniably an excellent player, but I think we have bigger needs than his type. I’d prefer to secure our own guys in H & Charlie before spending big on another high-priced recruit. Obviously I have zero insight into the club’s salary cap situation but I can’t imagine we’d have the $ to get him.
I would be willing to argue that we never for a moment considered baker

Brayshaw re-signed to 2028

Well that happened reeeeaaaaly quickly, only 2 days ago he was talking about his future in many different guises.
I’d say the Dees got told about Jackson and were able to then up the offer and he couldn’t sign fast enough

I’m just saying keep an eye out. What about Blake Acres this year? Plays wing and tackles.

id pay a pick 15 for zac Bailey . Plays half forward and wing. Career tackle average 2.4.

Yeah, that's cool, if another player presents who would be a better fit I'm open to it.

Acres - is 26yo and a much bigger body, he gets his tackles because he rolls into general stoppages as an extra mid. Not convinced Acres is gettable either. WA lad, went back to WA, playing for a finals contender, been offered 1 year and is holding out for 2, suspect he'll get the second year and stick around. Would be happy to take him if the opportunity was there, but I think we'd be trading off kicking skills, endurance and scope for improvement for a mature body and some contested ability if we went him instead of Sholl. Arguable as to whether it's worthwhile for a wing position.

Bailey is a ripper, but again, is he getting tackles playing on the wing, or is he getting tackles playing up forward and on-ball, as well as getting the odd stint on the wing. If we could get him I'd do it in a heartbeat, but he'd be replacing Owies in the 22 and I'd still want an actual winger to be recruited as well.

There are 3 gettable genuine wingers this year:

Sholl
Amon
Whitfield

ok...i'll ask...

not that i listen to his music but whats wrong with barry manilow?

There's a global trend of local councils / venues blaring Barry Manilow music over the loud speaker whenever they want crowds (usually kids) to disperse.

Obviously each person has different tastes, but I was searching for something that has history as 'obnoxious music'.

I could equally have suggested something that is unquestionable poor music like Baby Shark or Crazy Frog....... Or you know....99% of rap music, any artist that has a $ sign in their name, uses a Z instead of an S, has any other deliberate spelling mistake or starts with 'Lil....

Is it OK to 'OK Boomer' yourself?

Asking for a friend....

I agree.
Doubt it was even a possibility.
As Forty3 mentioned, it was always re-sign with Richmond or go back to WA.
I was just commenting on whether or not he was the best fit for us salary cap-wise.

Jackson is the worst kept secret in the history of the AFL. It's at the point now Freo have already pick him for the round 1 team next year.

Amon will be a hawk.

Not many could even consider Whitfield based on his contract. So he has to decide if he wants to play for one of the few teams that could.
Richmond will most likely end up with one of the GWS excess inside mids.

Fair chance De Goey and Grundy could be moved on from the pies, and they pick up Mcstay, but given their current list payments, and what they would have to contribute to any Grundy deal, unlikely they can lure much else.

Melbourne are searching everywhere to spend the money they had saved for Jackson on a key forward, they have a break out player from the Hawks in the crosshairs, but would have to move heaven and earth to get the hawks to part with him.

Charlie likely to sign new contract before years end, Harry's negotiations might go into next year, but entirely confident they are both staying long term.

Interesting list calls to be made on the lower end, Setterfield's return to form has ramifications. Sholl is very a likely acquisition, can go into the reasons why again, but have covered it before and a few others have made similar point, he'll be a good pick up.

Depending on Marchbank and Govs ability to play out the year, we could have a very quiet offseason.

All pretty logical and straight forward.

What ramifications you referring to regarding Setterfield? You talking about whether he gets resigned or ramification to others on the list or targets from other clubs?

Thank you Forty3.

I’m dreaming here, but would love to try a Treloar type deal with Whitfield if they could pay a good portion of his salary if desperate. But in reality, our moneyball type move for Sholl to address wing depth and quality is more than fine. Cotters and LOBs development doesn’t make it a super demanding need. I’m guessing the Marchbank and Gov comment is we will be active on defenders if these two break down again?

Could we package up Setts, Plow, Marchy and Kennedy and a 2nd rounder for a swap???

Just a thought...

Imagine the outcry if we dont go after a key position backmen because gov and marchbank put a month or 2 of footy together 🤣

Thanks for the info Forty3

Have previously heard that Lobb will likely head to the Dogs for a 1st with an exchange of other picks, then 2 x 1st heading to Melbourne for Jackson, Meeks also could head to the Demons

How underwhelming would that be for Jackson? They are 2 1st round picks from a side likely to have a late 1st round pick this year and next. Melbourne are definitely hoping that Jackson goes full “WTF?” mode and nominates West Coast.
