I thought I'd use my 10,000th post to rehash the rules of the board to clarify a few things and redo all of the links and helpful sites. If you think something is missing, and needs to be added, please let me know. I've ripped bits and pieces from SJ's rules and from ones I've written for other areas of BigFooty.

SuperCoach is a game. Fundamentally, we are all here because we love the game. The beauty of the game, is that everything is speculation and opinion. Whilst many use facts to back up a point of view, at the end of the day everything is guesswork. If you post on this board enough, there will be dozens of examples of where you are both right and also very wrong.

As such, it is important to acknowledge that people have differing opinions and viewpoints and just because someone doesn’t agree with you, doesn’t necessarily mean they are wrong. In here, as it is in face to face interactions, it is important that everyone has a mutual respect for each other. Arguments are fine, disagreeing with someone is fine and articulating that in a respectable manner is fine.

Generally speaking, the golden rule of thumb is that if what you post would be appropriate in to say to a colleague in the workplace, it’s okay to say here.

SuperCoach, as all boards are, are governed by the BigFooty Terms, located here : Terms and rules

As an extension, or more specifically:

Rule 1. We encourage rigorous debate as long as it stays on topic and subject. If you attack the man then you risk infraction; when responding, attack the argument not the poster.

Rule 2. Avoiding the swear filter by altering a letter or two even though the word is still obvious will be deemed deliberate and will incur an infraction. If you feel the need to swear in a particular post then just type the actual swear words and let the swear filter do its thing.

Rule 3. Posting any information on or ridiculing the personal details (real name, photos, job, place of residence, marital status or family members etc) of another poster will also earn you a nice holiday from BigFooty.

Rule 4. Continually using the “Report” button just because you don’t like the post, or the poster, will take you down a slippery slope. The report button is there to report serious breaches of the rules, not because someone calls you an idiot or disagrees with you

Rule 5. Starting Threads/Posting

Over a number of years a happy medium has been struck between the board hosting an individual thread for every player, issue and question, or hosting a few megathreads where every post is lost in the traffic.

Thus the best (but not perfect) solution is to retain an annual and weekly thread structure for the board which covers the majority of posts and questions. From time to time, other issues will crop up which will warrant new threads.

Annual structure:
  • [Year] defenders
  • [Year] midfielders
  • [Year] rucks
  • [Year] forwards
  • [Year] rookies
  • [Year] post your team (preseason)
  • [Year] player/s X versus player/s Y
  • [Year] injuries, suspensions & late changes
  • [Year] nailed it
  • [Year] regrets/vent thread
Weekly structure:
  • [Round] trades
  • [Round] discussion
  • [Round] captain / vice-captain
5a. We appreciate that each person has topics which they feel strongly about, but posting thread after thread on the same topic, especially where the content tends to overlap with an existing thread, is strongly discouraged. Rather, we would prefer the bumping of old threads so long as the bump has become relevant again or may be of interest to readers. If the moderators believe that a thread you created is similar to another, it will be merged. It’s a pain having too many active threads on the main page.

5b. You are allowed to include a news article in your thread or post, but rather than simply posting a link, try to quote the most relevant paragraph or two from the article so people understand what you’re highlighting. A link to a 6 page document with no reference is annoying.

5c. Use the search function - multiple threads on the same topic clog up the board and push other threads off the front page, so have a look before hitting "Submit Thread" that someone hasn't already thought of your bright idea before you. The search forum tool is at the top right hand of the forum.

5d. Don't create threads asking people to join your league in the main board. Each year there will be an "Unofficial Member Organised Leagues" thread located on this board. Post your requests there.

Rule 6. Moderators / Infractions

6a. The moderators of this forum are always right and there will be zero tolerance of criticism levelled at moderators.

6b. The SuperCoach Board does not exist is to provide a forum for anyone to air their grievances about Moderators or infractions they have received (on this board or any other). If you feel you have been hard done by the correct procedure is to take up your case with the Moderator via PM. If you’re not happy with the response, you can escalate it to an admin via the contact page: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/sendmessage.php

6c. Posting images on SRP is a good way to strengthen your case, or to generate debate. However, there are limits to everything. As you can imagine, the moderators will automatically apply appropriate infractions against posters who display pornographic, obscene, or offensive images. Pictures of naked women, or scantily clad women, are expressly banned as our advertisers have policies against them. At the end of the day, they are what keeps BigFooty fundamentally a free service.

6d. Examples of automatic infractions are: images of Downs syndrome or other obviously intellectually handicapped persons (usually as a form of insult to a fellow poster); pictures of other big footy users; pictures of decapitated bodies/war zones, pictures of drug use or associated implements, animals fornicating, defecating, urinating etc.; images of personal vibrators, dildos, sex dolls etc....

6e. We can't list all of the things that are inappropriate, so we say be tasteful. If it's something you would be comfortable showing your grandmother - then it's probably OK.

6f. Moderators do what they do voluntarily. Even though you may not see the majority of what goes on, largely the reason we all live in peace is because we keep the ugly stuff off the board. If a moderator makes a request, or a ruling, please have enough respect to adhere to that. Otherwise, refer to Rule 6b.

Rule 7. Race / Sexual Preference

7a. Racist remarks are offensive and will not be tolerated in any way. Remember that some slang terms that were once commonplace are no longer acceptable in our more enlightened society, so choose your words carefully. Words such as "wog" or other such words amount to racial vilification and will not be tolerated.

7b. Questioning someone's sexual preferences or suggesting they perform sexual acts with or without someone else will run the gauntlet of good taste. Stay away from any and all references to gender identity or sexual preferences. Choose your comments wisely as what may not be offensive to you may be for someone else. A person's Gender Identity is also not to be attacked or questioned on this board. Please respect every person as an individual poster.

Rule 8. Application of Rules

8a. Applying these rules is an inexact science and we as moderators will consider context, the history of a poster and the nature of the thread among other things when determining whether the undefinable line has been crossed. We may also just be in a bad mood.

8b. Long sequences of off topic bickering between posters can be boring for others to read and will be likely deleted with an infraction attached.

8c. It is impossible for us to read every post in every thread so some posts may slip through unnoticed. If you are offended by a post and believe action should be taken, report the post as this will ensure it is brought to our attention and we can act on it as necessary. If you do report a post don't then respond to it as well as it creates even more work for us and will darken our mood. Responding will most likely see both yourself, and the instigator, infracted

8d. Above all else we are all here to have fun and enjoy some good natured banter with other passionate members.

Rule 9. External websites

All threads solely dedicated to external fantasy football sites are banned. A link to a resource list is in the next post. If you wish to have a site included on the list, please alert the moderators who will evaluate it before its addition.

Posts within other threads can still refer to information from an external site however this must be done by posting the entire article/page on BigFooty followed by a link to the original. Links to external sites in signatures are allowed.

This board is for discussion. If you would like your website to gain exposure, place a link in your signature and join in discussion with valuable and insightful information, ideas and opinions. You will become recognised and trusted and people will eventually spend their valuable time finding their way to your website. Direct advertising is not permitted. If you would like to advertise on BigFooty, direct your enquiries to the Customer Service board or PM Chief directly.

This is fair, and more than we allow on other parts of the site.

Rule 10. Supercoach Draft and Cash Leagues

There's no need to start new threads all over the board advertising that you need to fill your league. If everyone did that, we'd be lost in a jungle. You are more than welcome to post advertisements for your various league in the appropriate thread on this board.

Rule 11. Politics

Head over here to discuss politics. Any reference to, or discussion of politics, in any way, is not welcome here.

Rule 12. Trolling

An internet 'troll' is an abusive or obnoxious user who uses shock value to promote arguments and disharmony in online communities. Named after the wicked troll creatures of children's tales, an internet troll is someone who stirs up drama and abuses their online anonymity by purposely sowing hatred, bigotry, racism, mysogyny, or just simple bickering between others. Trolls like a big audience, so they frequent blog sites, news sites, discussion forums, and game chat. Trolls thrive in any environment where they are allowed to make public comments.

If someone has a different opinion to yours, and argues against that opinion, that does not mean they are "trolling". Posters often have differing opinions. Just because other posts don't think a player is as good as you do, that does not constitute "trolling".

If a moderator considers that a post you have made has been done so in order to get under another persons skin, it will most likely be removed.

Rule 13. Essendon Drug Saga (and other such club transgressions)

We've all discussed this to our hearts content. This is the SuperCoach Board. The drugs saga has nothing to do with SuperCoach. Please refrain from referring to the saga, making snide remarks or taking pot shots at the Essendon Football Club.

It is important as a community that we are all inclusive and encourage supporters of all clubs to visit here regularly. Essendon supporters shouldn't have to come to the SC Board and put up with insults any more than Carlton supporters should over salary cap rorting.

If you wish to have your say on the Essendon Drug Scandal, there are other areas in BigFooty dedicated to discussing that topic.

This rule covers any and all club and player transgressions, sagas and periods of turmoil - for much the same reason as the Essendon Drug Saga example. The SuperCoach board does not exist for discussing such incidents, nor does it exist for baiting people based on the club that they support.

Warnings will be issued on initial transgressions and infractions handed out for repeat offences.

Rule 14. Hindsight Heroes

SuperCoach, fundamentally, is like Tattslotto. Despite all the historical statistics that go in to making predictions, thoughts are just that; predictions. Many posters here will make dozens of them a week; some will no doubt end up being correct, some will end up being incorrect. If people didn’t post what they thought at the time of posting, we wouldn’t have a board at all.

Hindsight heroes are not welcome on this board, full stop.

There's nothing more frustrating than spending hours on here giving your thoughts and insights on SuperCoach players only to have some random come along and say "I told you so" when you inevitably get one wrong. This type of behaviour discourages people from posting their thoughts in the first place, and in reality is just plain childish. Not only will you alienate yourself from the community, you'll find yourself infracted.

Rule 15. Gambling

The punting board is over here if you need it. SC board is not the place.

Rule 16. The catch-all rule

It is impossible to document everything, and this is not a court of law where arguments over the wording of rules or decisions of moderators can be debated. At the end of the day this is a privately owned, and privately run board. Freedom of speech does not exist here and we reserve the right to allow or disallow whatever we choose. You have the option of reporting posts, or discussing interpretations/decisions in private with the moderators.

For the large part, this board is one big family. We have many regular posters who have been around a long time. We will, at all times, make decisions that seek to protect what was been established here over many many many years. Any failures to adhere to continued requests from moderators to change behaviours they identify as threatening the community that exists, whether you agree with them or not, will not be tolerated.

The moderators reserve the right to ban any users from this board who they believe continue to upset the equilibrium, despite being warned previously.

Finally, whatever we say goes. If you don’t agree with a decision we make, which are usually made in unanimous agreement, you can escalate your complaints to a Super Mod or an Admin.

If you have any queries or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact the moderators.

Have fun and good luck!

Cheers,

I've posted quite a few warnings in various discussion threads but people seem to either be missing them, or ignoring them, as I keep having to hand out infractions.

Enough of the objectifying of women, references to sexual acts, references to cum, in and out, whatever other variant you can think of. Women should be respected and not treated as a piece of meat. Some of the posts I'm reading lately wouldn't even be acceptable at 2:45am at a pub on a Friday night, let alone in a workplace. The posts are not funny - they're just plain childish.

There are women and children who frequent this board, and I've had quite a few complaints from male regulars on here who are over it as well. A post now and then was fine, but now it's gone way too far and has to stop. These posts are against BigFooty terms and conditions of use, and our board rules.

Last warning to everyone to stop immediately or you will be given time off. Please use the report button on any violations you come across.

We’re here again.

Chief gave everyone a warning a few weeks ago about nudity and sexual content, yet a couple of people have decided that they’d be really clever and post up pictures that violate the rules on a Sunday afternoon and just cop their 1-2 week ban. Well, those people didn’t cop a temporary ban, they’re gone for good, permanent bans. Good posters, really good posters, who were a lot of fun to be around. Not clever a move. Not smart. Not funny. Dumb. Just dumb.

Putting the Google advertising to the side, there are women and children who frequent this board. There are regulars on here who might play along in threads because they want to be part of the group, but those same people send in reports and complaints to the Mods about it as well. You would be surprised if you knew who some of these regulars were. There are still many people who use a family computer in the lounge room and have their wives and children around.

A post now and then was fine, but now it's gone way too far and has to stop. These posts are against BigFooty terms and conditions of use, and our board rules. To repeat the warning I gave last time; Enough of the objectifying of women and references to sexual acts. No posting images of women you think are hot. There are other websites for that. This board exists to talk about SuperCoach, not hot women. Women should be respected and not treated as a piece of meat. I’m a father of three young girls, and if some of the things said in here were said about my girls to my face, I’d lose my shit. If you’re not man enough to treat women with decency and respect, this is not the place for you.

Finally, Mods can’t be everywhere. If you see something that is out of line, please report it. All reports are anonymous. We will action all reports and deal with them accordingly.

Well said !

Great post Jiska. Its an absolute joke how some of the so called men around here conduct themselves. As a man who treats his very significant other like a princess, queen and angel - it really warms my heart. She will love reading this during her 10 minute wifi allowance after she has completed all of her nightly kitchen and bathroom chores followed by adjusting the timing belt on my old VK properly this time.

srs though, as good as most of the imagery posted is, not everyone is posting/lurking with complete screen privacy and that shouldn't be a concern when browsing something as soft core as a footy forum. Plenty of other locations for that.

Oh and the kids, their eyes etc. Poor things

This has become a major issue & posters need to be aware, they are responsible for any breach of copy write material

You can repost a paragraph or two, with a link to the relevant article
