A hasty, ass-covering appointment by the Board.

They knew that Williams and Thompson were going to knock them back, and appointed Knights now to try help justify the Sheedy exit

they have to fave the extra-ordinary meeting soon and would have looked like imbeciles if they didn't have a coach by them. Lucky Knights was hanging around otherwise they might have appointed the janitor! (still better than Daniher I guess)

No, an ass covering appointment would've been one of a club favourite like Daniher or Hardwick. But let's not let facts get in the way.

We didn't dump Sheedy for Knights.

We "dumped" because he was deemed not to be the right man to lead us for the next five years. His age being a contributing factor.

Knights wasn't in the picture when Sheedy was "dumped"

The ambition was to seek out Mark Williams, however he wasn't available.

A process then took place, using Stride Management and Matthew Knights was deemed the be the best candidate. I take it his development work and the respect the young players have for him went some way to making this decision.

On the back of the same process Sumich and Hardwick have been offered assistant coaching roles.

I would have preferred Hardwick and Knights the other way around. I like Knights' work and what he's done for the club.

But then again, I wasn't privy to the process.

So you'ce accepted about 5th best.

Not like the Bombers I know and love to hate.

They'll have rebuilt the Twin Towers before you beat us again.

Not sure how you got 5th best out of that, but let's not worry about those pesky facts.

A while ago.

Still, we could play Essendon underwater, you guys having scuba gear and us having snorkels, and we'd still do you.
Ah well, let's be honest, apart from your mob this year both of our teams have been shit for the last 5 years. So let's just focus on the last game between us that meant something, like a final. Let's talk about the last final we played against each other :p

Or we had to appoint Knights because we actually needed someone to coach us and he was deemed best available after a eight week interview process...

Harvey was never on the cards.
We didn't short list Bailey.
Ratten was only ever going to coach Carlton.

We got the best of who was available.

We missed out on Leigh Matthews and we couldn't res erect Jock McHale...I guess that means we got 7th best...

We know you wanted Williams, you also wanted Bomber Thompson. I imagine there were a few other names on the list.

But you went for your VFL coach after a long and exhaustive process.
Ah, so now you're "imagining" things.

Ummm, don't lump us with your crapness.

We finished top four this year, and 5th in 2005.

And there are kids walking around who have never known an Essendon win against North.

Anything below the Top 4 shouldn't be considered good enough.

So, the big plan, which required the iring on sonsultants, was to tap Knightsy on the shoulder after training one night and offer him the gig?
So maybe Knightsy was the best available. How were we to know this if we didn't interview all the candidates? You shouldn't overlook those close to the club simply because they're there, that's ridiculous logic.

Its what the process ended up with.

You interviewd 18 applicants, none of them being Williams or Thompsion, the blokes you wanted.
Williams was unavailable. No point interviewing someone we can't get.

Thompson would've had to go through the process, which would've taken 2 weeks minimum, and that's not factoring in Geelong commitments. Simply not doable. Could Bomber have been better? Maybe, we'll never know. But we have Knights and he has the full support of the supporter base.

You tried to include North in that statement, when patently, we have not been shite for the last 5 years.

God, if we had your resources, they'd need to invent new measures of winning for us.
You and Collingwood have shown respectively that off field resources count for exactly nothing.

And your point is?

I'm sure Leigh Matthews was at the top of our list...

We want Jonathan Brown to play for us too.

Does that mean we've made a mistake in now being able to get him to the club?

We actually had to hire a coach...

they interviewed 18 candidates (excluding Bomber and Choco) and came up with Knights. - there's one to store away and ponder when he falls on his face!
Forgive me, but I'm failing to see the negative here
