You and Collingwood have shown respectively that off field resources count for exactly nothing.

Much and all as I'd love to crap on about Shinboner Soirit and about how the weights are the same whether you lift them in a shed or a palace, we all know that resources do count a great deal.

Official lines from Essendon FC
Promise:
We won't consider the coaching position until after the season.
Reality:
Sheedy gets sacked midseason because they want to get the word out amongst the good coaches. Not the best available coach, the best coach.
They end up picking a current Assistant who didn't apply for any other coaching jobs.
Meaning:
They crapped themselves because it looked like Melbourne, Carlton and Freo would all get coaches before Essendon had a chance to even speak to the candidates; eventually this happened anyway, and Essendon picked last.

Promise:
We will wait until after the season because we want to speak to Mark Thompson first. We won't be rushed by media attention.
Reality:
After waiting until 4 days before becomming available, they appoint someone else without speaking to Thompson at all.
Meaning:
Little to no credibility can be given to anything Jackson says because he obviously either changes his mind to suit public opinion, or never intended to do what the publicly stated.

Peter Jackson has acted out of panic on two occasions at least in this situation alone, or he told deliberate lies.
You'd have to wonder if he is the best person to lead Essendon from here on.

No Mero, you're right. We should've sat on our hands and waitied, thus not getting involved in the process until 6 weeks after everyone else simply because of something the club had said earlier in the year.

We are just going in circles here. I just find it weird that if Knights was the best option, why it you needed to hire consultants and interview half of Australia.

Anyway, I wish Essendon all the worst and look forward to beating you again many times.

How would we have known if he was the best out there if we didn't speak to everyone out there first?

But the suspicion lingers that he wasn't/isn't the best ... or what you really wanted.
Clubs very rarely get who they really want. Ie when you got Laidley was he your number 1 best in the world choice?

doubt that'll help you sleep! you sacked sheedy, went in search of the best coach available and appointed your VFL coach.

I imagine it was his 3/4 address in the VFL elimination final that clinched it!:)

was that the match where Bendigo were 34 points up at 1/4 time, 54 points up at 1/2 time and 33 points at 3/4 time and lost by 37 points ??!!

god, i didn't know Knights was apart of that train wreck....

Didn't realise we based someones coaching credentials on one game.

Knights is unproven, only time will tell. Lets not speculate and crucify the bloke before he starts. He may go on and be the greatest coach ever, he may be a dud. Lets wait and see.

A coach has to start somewhere. You've really gone up in my estimations SotY. I thought you were nothing more than a Macpie sheep, but i am wrong. First it was Matty Lloyd and now THIS?!

I support the board's decision in appointing Knights. It could go either way, as you say, but the same could happen if we appointed Bomber Thompson, Dimma Hardwick or Suma. There are no certainties in footy.

He need to be given an opportunity to show us members he has what it takes. After getting through our exhaustive 'process', i believe that he has the tools to become a good coach. But as you say, time will tell.

Cheers mate :thumbsu:

- The timing of Sheedy's departure (and rushed/messy/unprepared nature of) was dictated by their fear that Voss would be gone if they waited.

Horborough goes into a meeting saying Sheedy wont be discussed, a day later he's sacked.

- The timing of the new coach's arrival (and rushed/messy/unprepared nature of) has been dictated by wanting to have a coach and team in place to secure Judd.

This includes the farce about board members leaking that Hardwick had the job, but then at the last minute Knights gets to present, and 12 hours later he has the job.

This smells of board members not being able to handle football decisions, being out of their depth and being ruled by the fear of incompetency. What you fear you create.

So Horsborough should've told the media before he told Sheedy?

Board members didn't leak that story. Get your facts right and dont make sh*t up. Ten ran with it based on Sumichs comments that he was out fo the race and Dimma had got it. Hence the report mentioend 'the word in coaching circles'.

this board is on the brink. couldn't handle Hardwick's team assessment coz they "haven't got that long" so quickly scrambled for Plan F - Knights. if he fails next year he will be followed out the door by Horsburg and Jackson (if they last that long)

Agree. Knights is the sacrificial lamb. The Essendon Board know the members won't tolerate a total clean out so they've gone for the soft option.
