I retract my deluded comment I was a bit excited.
Yes I am, Perception can so often beCome reality anD weatly is on a power trip since he left Aunty!
His opinion has weight and his opinion on rules/tribunal/trading flip flops depending wether it helps or hinders the cats.
If you Don’t believe media Influence and push agenda look at USA media who our commercial media strive to emulate.
watch Fox News and msnbc covering The presidential election

You are conflating media influence on US politics with media and the AFL trade and FA happenings. It is a very poorly made point, the two have absolutely no correlation.

How and when have the media ever affected a trade negotiation in the AFL, by espousing their opinions on a players worth? Why would clubs, who sink hours and hours into these things, with highly paid people in specialised roles be influenced by the media? You honestly think Stephen Wells and Geelong for instance, would adjust their TPP models because of what someone in the media thinks?

I get you want to deny that Crouch's value has spectacularly dropped, but it just isn't washing.

Lol, Whately is biased anything which may be Cats related.

Can't believe you are so blind to media biases.

Totally missing the point, probably on purpose I suspect.

I am not arguing that media figures aren't biased, in fact they clearly are in most cases. What I'm saying is that you and the poster above are pretending that they have some kind of baring on what club's will offer by pushing their opinions. It's simply unfounded IMO.

I ask again; in what world and why would clubs, who sink hours and hours into these things with highly paid people in specialised roles, be influenced by the medias opinion of a players worth in what they offer a player contractually? You think it's some kind of conspiracy, but in reality it's probably just what Crouch is worth which clearly doesn't suit you and others.

I think the illicit drug issue will be a non issue when it comes to clubs tabling offers after watching the dust settle and seeing rational heads in the media comment..not the partisans like the 5 minute fireman or rucci who are always conflicted.

I think he will get an offer around the $700k mark for 4-5 years and that will be one that is a grey area on FA. Could fall just inside band 1 if over $700k or band 2 if under or years are less.

I think the crows will look to match a deal that they feel wont be band 1 and will swallow his contract length. It may then become a trade and if geelong if i was the club i would be saying pick 11 + or no deal. Where that goes who knows. If it is port then crouch stays as tgey have nothing of value in terms of draft picks and cant use any of the drafts as a threat.

But the gut feel is he stays

Thing is he deserves a club penalty but if they do he can just refuse and walk.

It is surprising to read that posters actually think a journalist in the media is talking down a player so that this will enable a club he supports to obtain that player more cheaply. I know we have like to have a dig at Adelaide being small time, but really come on people.
Mate, with some posters this us just the tip of the iceberg of the media conspiracy at the moment.

Not to the point where they can be cocky

their last 10 games this year
8 losses
1 draw
1 win

start well like last year then just turn to rubbish in the back half. Confident we will finish higher than them next year
Yeah, if I was them I'd have confidence in their youth and now their ability to retain them

Show me where I have stated the media impact on a trade... because suggesting this is a complete lie!

All I have said is much of the media are not impartial nor have a clue & often guessing or making up stories.

To get band 1 compo, he will need to be offered a contract that would place him in the top 20 earners in the AFL. That would require a contract of at least $850K p.a. and probably at least 5 years. There’s no way a $700K salary is going to receive band 1 compo.

3 hours of Gerard then 3 hours of derwayne Russell sen owned by hutchy mad cat supporter

Who knows though do the dons consider themselves a flag contender they are my sneaky one that will want him and have room to get him
Any Essendon board member, coach etc who thinks we are in the window should be booted from the club on the spot

This isn’t true. As a 26 year old with bonus points applied, Brad would need to be in the top 15% of earners aged 25 and over to be in the ballpark for band 1 free agency compensation.

What they do is try and set a narrative and then people take that on board and it influences public opinion. Should have a disclaimer about any conflicts of interest attached to their articles to make people aware of potential bias

That someone supports a club is a conflict of interest that should be declared? They are trying to set a narrative? No they are not, they are trying to get clicks, end of story.

The media sets a narrative. Clueless if you think not. They take a strong stance either side of an issue and that creates talking points. You are very simple if you think that doesn't happen. In this particular case I don’t think Crouch is worth 800k people have spoken about. But he’s a good mid who is a free agent. Teams pay slightly overs to get them out of a club and not cost them draft comp. I think it will be 650-750k. Depending on the team. And the deal will most likely be 4 maybe 5. That certainly puts them close to first rd compo. The 5th yr and the slight overs will decide that. But if a club can afford it and are in the window I say go for it. Doesn’t cost you anything in the draft and you can still get youth in. I think I’m a side where he’s the 2-3 best mid that’s a strong middle line and that’s where big games are won. We shall wait and see who takes the punt, I’m sure the next 3 weeks of finals will have a say in that.
