Free Agency Brad Crouch [joins St Kilda as a RFA for pick 23]

Sounds like Richmond are in the box seat, according to their most reliable ITK. If you thought getting something from us was gonna be bad, it'll be like getting blood from a stone with the salary they'll offer/draft picks they have on hand
It's as transparent as glad wrap Brad wants $ and is prepared to go to any club to get it

He wanted to go to GC last year FFS

Nothing wrong with that he has 5 years of making big bucks he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and after footy he will have to save his penny's

...But my point is that Richmond will offer him nowhere near what a club like GC, Saints, Essendon etc. would (players took a pay cut to get Lynch in, and Bolton, Baker, Balta etc. are all in line for pay rises so they would have Rance's salary to cover Crouch and other players who are getting a pay rise). IF it is Richmond, you definitely won't get Band 1. You'll then trade apparently, but they have no picks that are any better than the Band 2 or 3 compo you would get. So you then keep him.

So if you understand what I'm saying, it means that if he really wants to leave, then the relationship is untenable and he'll end up at Richmond for less than you want as compo in a trade. This is unlikely, as he's said he's happy with the club.

That then means, the only other option is that you retain him (most likely) - meaning you again don't get Pick 2.

If it is Richmond - Pick 2 is over. Finito.

T. Kelly is another one for mine - albeit under very exceptional circumstances (Danger left the Crows, but I don't think they were Top 4 when he left)
Tim Kelly left because u didn't offer enough money and he needed a contract to set him up financially after joining AFL late

I would think that the club might look at some of the Richmond players in a trade scenario rather than straight draft picks. I mean they have been clearly the best team in the last 4 years and there will be players squeezed out looking for opportunity to play.

The System is ****** scrap the compo, the players have decided they want free agency so it's not leaving . The compo puts clubs in a position to not match because the pick they could or generally get will be better then a trade.

If a player says he wants to go to another club he's given that club his word, i just don't think if his current club matches why he would backflip . Every bottom team who has lost a player through free agency has the ability to match because they're aren't struggling to pay there cap like Adelaide currently, also stops a top team from getting the player for free.

If Adelaide get 2 for crouch it's a joke hes worth a mid 1st at most . Its also an unfair of advantage they can just squeeze another pick in the draft order all of a sudden. The afl is such an average run organisation.
What's worse are the compo picks the Suns got for doing nothing.

They also need to lose the FS Vic BS, and all academies, particularly the 20%points reduction.

But if he wants Richmond, you can't force him to go somewhere else just for your own purposes, That's not how RFA works. If it's untenable, he walks to the PSD. If you then redraft him, you have a player that doesn't want to be there after declaring he would leave for another team. If he just decides to stay or you can't work out terms that net you what you want so you retain him, then you will not be getting Pick 2.

It's really not difficult. If Crouch has decided on Richmond, you don't get Pick 2.

What the actual f*ck? Are you actually seriously kidding me right now? We offered him a HUGE contract -

.

“Everyone's got their own circumstances, but we'd be silly not to be creative in our thinking in order to keep a good player like Tim Kelly.” The same report said the deal, if accepted, would see Kelly's salary increase to $800,000 in 2020, which would put him among the four highest paid Geelong players."

He had two autistic children, his wife wasn't coping and he needed the family support. He declared so many times that if he could move Perth to Geelong, he would. We offered him close to $200K more a year than he got from West Coast in the end (600-650K over 5 years) - this was all widely reported on.

You have no idea what his priority is - especially if he wants to go to Richmond or us for a chance at success. It has been stated so many times that I can't keep count, that he wants job security more than the pure financial figures. I actually don't know how you are still under the illusion that things are the same as last year.

1. We're in a pandemic now - we weren't last year
2. Salaries are being cut across the league - as are list sizes
3. He's not in contract anymore - he's an RFA
4. He had nowhere near as good a year as last year, and didn't play as many games - due to injury again
5. He got a strike for doing drugs just a few weeks ago, and since then, has been ruled out by 2 clubs

If you think none of that makes a difference, then clearly you must be Crouch's partner or his family member, because you have info that belies logic and the facts as they have been presented.

I'm gonna have to go back to ignoring you, because it's just too exhausting doing this over and over again

Huh? We have all our picks this year and next available. If it came to a trade we'd have more than enough to get it done.

We have history of being very easy to deal with.

He declared he needed to move to eagles and not freo. That matter drives me insane, if someone has to go home it should be up to Geelong which club he goes to for their best deal if both clubs offer the same.

More that those picks are way higher than anything that has been suggested in this thread. We at least have 11 and 13 locked in. You guys either have 17 or 18, and probably a pretty late pick next year too.

Also, that you guys are probably not going to pay enough to garner Band 1 and Pick 2, and you don't have trade currency that's as lucrative as us. If Crouch nominates you - which I honestly think is the best fit given the way he plays -, then what the Crows will get in return will be much less than posters have suggested - and much less than they want from us or as FA compo

While yes, you are right atleast WCE ponied up and paid the price for him. It would have been nice to price a Brayshaw or Cerra out of Freo's hands though ;)

Um you might want to research this one further. Also, getting off topic here

Now you're starting to talk about a real complex trading scenario.

Consider that Free Agency and Trade Period in the shortened time frames now only overlap by 3 days. The end date for free agency is now 3 weeks away and one of those weeks will be soaked up by the target club playing in the GF this weekend

Richmond would either need to complete a very complex trade including players leaving, likely a 3 way trade or involving some other enabling trades and they have only 3 business days to complete that. They could make the offer, let it go to match then do the deal during the trade period but then the club is locking itself in to a very poor negotiating position.

Any free agent move that goes to trade this year would have to be for picks or would have to be one where the destination club is 100% they can get it done after the free agency window was closed. I can't see any club taking the risk for Brad given his cornered they would make themselves and the perceived lack of enthusiasm for him out there.
