The speed and trajectory were chosen by Maynard as a professional to effect a football action. It wasn't unrealistic to attempt as he touched the ball. To slow or alter would lead him to fail to effect the smother and we are no longer playing a game of sport. His response to curl and turn was a reflex and not a deliberate action complicated by Brayshaws movement across his path, movement that could not be reasonably anticipated by Maynard in the leadup to the collision...

Biomechanist: Once airbone, Maynard had no opportunity to avoid the collision.

The AFL notes the biomechanist says a young athlete might be 20-to-25 times faster than a non-athlete.

The biomechanist corrects him, saying they might be 20-to-25 per cent faster.

Anyone know when Van Rooyen went to McStay’s house with Chocolates? Hearing some of the boys were around and didn’t like the visit.
Apparently the chocolates didn't make it as far as the vase (Brayden has a number of these)

Geez, if the AFL's position is: "Leaping forward in the air with force to an opponent running in the opposite direction holds a key risk of badly injuring their opponent. It's a dangerous action to undertake & it breaches the duty of care owed to the other player."

Then why haven't they reflected that position in the rules - that's the obvious place to include this assertion and to communicate it to the players - waiting for an event like this to happen is simply reactive management of the game

Didn't N. Riewoldt and J Brown take 2 mark of the year winners running back with the flight of the ball, leaping to mark it on their chest and all the while opponents were rushing at them from the opposite direction?

That could have ended in a similar outcome.

I don't really see the distinction between leaping in desperation to smother a ball and leaping with a desire to mark it.

It was a footy act and an accident.

This just in.... AFL will now include players from the AFLW from 2024 season onwards due to a new ruling banning any contact or action that may impact an opposition player or resemble the old Aussie Rules Football game. The AFL also will ensure that fans will no longer be permitted to boo opposition players as it causes them to feel bad.

2024 Snowflake Cup. Every participant will get a medal.

Biomechanist: I do not believe Maynard's body position at the time of impact can be considered part of any conscious decision.

game-set ..

This is the team line. No time/oh shit.
