Guys,
I know this has nothing to do with footy, but Heath Ledger has just been found dead in his New York Apartment, i am a huge fan of him and am pretty upset about the news.

Can the Magpie Army pull together this morning and pay respect to a great Aussie Icon!!

Re: Breaking News...

A desperate tragedy, and a great waste. He was a thinking man with a social conscience as well as a talented actor. Celebrity is virtually an affliction nowadays, so great are the pressures on the tall poppies. That's one reason why I'm so opposed to scathing critiques of players on BF - it's hard enough dealing with a ruthless media without your own supporters weighing.

The fact that Heath had so much success so young made him particularly vulnerable. Heard on the radio that he's made 22 films already. Sadly, they will be his legacy. God help his family.

Re: Breaking News...

It is a sad, sad day today.....:(

An awesome actor. A fantastic career that has been cut so short. He was an Aussie....

My thoughts are with his family & friends at this time.

Gone but never forgotten.

Rest In Peace Heath Ledger. :(

Re: Breaking News...

I'm absolutely devastated. One of my favourite actors and a very talented one too. Only 28 years of age and leaving behind a baby girl.

RIP Heath Ledger.

Re: Breaking News...

Was seen on the party scene with Ben Cousins the night before!
not the time wanka, actually a comment like this is never helpful now please **** off or we'll start a thread about your club and its indiscretions.

Rip heath it was a sad way to go, we'll never know or understand your problems. May god help you family and let everyone remeber you for your life and not your untimely demise.

RIP Heath

Re: Breaking News...

Couldn't believe what I was hearing when I heard it on the radio whilst waking up. Still can't. Only 28 years old, an established actor who was only going to get better and a beautiful little girl who will now never really know her father.

Thoughts are with his family and friends, especially Matilda.

RIP Heath

Re: Breaking News...

Sad that he he died at such a young age.He was only 28 years old.
He was just about to play the JOKER in the new Batman movie.
R.I.P Heath !!!!!!

Re: Breaking News...

Thank God it wasnt Heath Shaw.

Still you shouldnt take drugs.
Rumours are flying everywhere!
Sleeping pills they think were with him but now they think he had some illness.
RIP Heath Ledger

Re: Breaking News...

Sad as it may be, it was by his own hand. What distresses me more is the death of the 3 year old and his baby brother on the Ring Road yesterday.

THAT is a tragedy.

Re: Breaking News...

Recent quote about the The Dark Knight – and heath’s preparation for the Joker role. Last line is very interesting.

Heath Ledger plays the Joker, whom the actor described as a "psychopathic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy".[9] Nolan had wanted to work with Ledger on a number of projects in the past, but had been unable to do so.[10] When Ledger saw Batman Begins, he realized a way to make the character work in that film's tone,[11] and Nolan agreed upon his anarchic interpretation.[10] To prepare for the role he lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the character's posture, voice and psychology.[8] While he initially found it difficult, Ledger was eventually able to generate a voice which did not sound like Jack Nicholson's take on the character in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film.[12] He started a diary, in which he wrote the Joker's thoughts and feelings to guide himself during his performance.[9] He was also given Batman: The Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth to read, which he "really tried to read [...] and put it down".[11] Ledger also cited inspiration in A Clockwork Orange and Sid Vicious.[13] Ultimately, "there’s nothing that [is] consistent", as his main objective was to frighten the audience.[13] The challenge of the role put a strain on Ledger's sleep patterns, finding himself unable to rest for more than a few hours each night.[9]

Wasnt it sleeping pills around his bed?

He did play Joker in the new Batman movie.

He ended up needing sleeping pills because of the part he played where he said the role 'stayed with him'.

It could've been those same sleeping pills which he would OD on.

Re: Breaking News...

That's freaking awful news. While not a huge Ledger fan as an actor, I did like some of his movies such as Two Hands, Ten Things I Hate About You, and hopefully the upcoming The Dark Knight.

Regardless of what you do or don't think of his ability though, he's a tremendous loss and a tragic one for his little girl and Michelle Williams.

Re: Breaking News...

OMG! I just realised he was in 10 Things I Hate About You
I like that movie...... Never remembered that he was in it........:(
Even though I didn't like Brokeback Mountain, I liked him in it....

Re: Breaking News...

More tragic stories then this are heard every day in the news, but is very sad news none the less...The unknown factor would be the most terrible part for his family i suspect, did he mean it or just take one to many pills to try and get to sleep...For someone who didnt like the media, he sure is getting plenty of it today, i reckon i have seen Richard Wilkins say the same thing twenty times...Rest in Peace young man!

THAT is a tragedy.

It's not that clear cut at this stage the pills were prescription pills and who knows what state of mind he was in. Was he abusing the pills for a high or was he in a bad state of mind?

Any death is a tragedy really but I see where you're coming from. While celebrity deaths get all the fanfare at least with a death like this shows others that it can happen to anyone and happen suddenly and perhaps get people to seek help earlier.
