Voss said his club had not been involved in discussions about Brendan Fevola
The Lions are poised to secure Fevola in exchange for Daniel Bradshaw and Michael Rischitelli.
They are understood to have come to terms with Carlton, pending the agreement of Bradshaw and Rischitelli.
THE completion of Carlton's blockbuster deal to send outcast forward Brendan Fevola to Brisbane relies only on the approval of Lions Daniel Bradshaw and Michael Rischitelli, who will meet the Blues today.
Crucially, Brisbane will pick up all of Fevola's salary in trade week's first huge deal, which began to unfold late on Tuesday night when it is believed a Lions official contacted the Blues and was expected to be finalised today.
The deal, should it go through, is expected to save Carlton money, with Fevola believed to be earning around $575,000 next year and $850,000 in 2011, while the Lions will finish trade week with their first-round draft choice intact.
"I see it as a gigantic win for the Lions," Matthews told Melbourne radio station 3AW.
"I'd be very surprised if Fev is not exemplary in all facets of his footy life, for at least the next couple of years," he said.
Matthews doubted Rischitelli would refuse to join the Blues.
"If your club says `We're prepared to let you go' and the new club loves you and says `You're going to be fantastic for us', 99 per cent of players eventually go," he said, noting Rischitelli's Melbourne origins helped.
THE Brisbane Lions' bid for Brendan Fevola is on the brink of collapse.
The proposed deal with Carlton is in danger of being sabotaged by Michael Rischitelli's reluctance to join the Blues.
A Brisbane official said last night: "The deal's off.”
The biggest trade of 2009 faltered when Rischitelli told Carlton that he would not leave Queensland and would remain at the Lions, where he is contracted to play for one more year.
The other half of the Brisbane trade offer, forward Daniel Bradshaw, was amenable to the shift, but without Rischitelli on board, the Lions told Carlton last night that the deal was off.
IT'S OFFICIAL – Brendan Fevola is a Brisbane Lion.
The Fevola trade was completed just after 11am on Friday – the final day of trade week – with the Blues sending the spearhead to Brisbane along with their second-round pick (No.27 overall).
In return, Carlton gains promising youngster and Victorian Lachlan Henderson, along with pick No.12 in next month’s NAB AFL Draft.
