I have to say that this guy just keeps getting better and better and better. :thumbsu::) His football ability and his leadership skills are some what underated IMO. He had a very good second half in 2011, played well during the Pre-Season and now looks like he will hopefully carry that form during the season.

His defensive skills: Tick
Ability to kick goals now: Tick
Getting to the contest first: Tick
Good decision maker: Tick
Ability to find the footy: Tick
Getting in the right spots: Tick
Tackling: Tick
Leadership Skills: Tick

Anything I miss? :p I have no hesitation in saying Whitecross is just about our most underated player right now, sit back & enjoy the rest of his season. :)

He was a big improver in the second half of last year, and I think he's continued in that vein so far. It was like something just clicked for him in the latter part of 2011, and I'm happy to see that it looks like he'll continue to improve in 2012. Looks fairly well entrenched in the 22 now.

Was in our top 5 last night. Loved his goal. As some said, rusty early but came into his own after that. Things are looking very bright for our future midfield.

Keeps improving....showed a lot of poise in the last half.
If we keep getting guys like him contributing consistently this year...we are a big chance of taking the silverware. Great game whitey. :D

Has bulked up a bit aswell which will assist him and the team. He is growing on me and last night i thought he did pretty good. Just needs to sharpen his disposal a tad but I would have him ahead of suckling, bateman, ossie and breust at the moment for a spot in the team when Hodge, Roughy, Gilham, Sheils and Poppy are available.

Still butchers the ball a lot for mine, but thought for large parts of the game last night he was one of our better players

A handy part of our side though as can switch between positions.

Looking forward to a good season from Whitey
Thought the same but , we are both wrong ....
21 Disp @82% Eff ......:thumbsu:

His gathering of the ball at full tilt while being chased by two Collingwood players was first rate, a sign of a truly skilled and composed player. He's going to really blossom this year, I think.

Our mids got burned a fair bit on the transition - Sammy, Sewell etc just can't keep up all game. We need players like WX to keep developing as his pace and endurance in the middle will make a big difference. Didnt look out of place in the middle last night.

Whitehouse has some special attributes and to be frank we need him to keep playing in the midfield because he's part of our next generation.

Only concern is over Woodward and Hallahan and whether they will be able to come in. I would like Schneider to come in too.

Agreed:thumbsu:

There were a couple of times in the last half where he was in traffic and kept his composure well, did a neat feign, sidestep and got into space for a decent pass.

Only concern is whether his awareness is there as a couple of passes in the first half were easily intercepted and I am not sure the kick went astray as much as he chose the wrong place to kick to.

But he is a keeper:D

Based on averages for all players attempting a given kick, whitecross hit the target 5.3% more than the average player (71.4% v an average of 66.4%). I think his reputation for burning the ball was created by his decision making process early last year. The guy is a very good kick on both sides and has a ton of ability. Looking forward to a big year. Am wondering if he does come on as an inside/outside midfielder does this put Sewell under pressure to hold his spot once hodge and Sheils are back?

This is always the way.

He looks considerably fitter.

He has his real zip back and is now able to take the game on and turn blokes inside out and become creative because he knows he is hard to catch.

He is well balanced at full tilt.

He is in for a good year.

It is great that we have a strong band of smalls who are all quick. It is why we won the game against the Pies.
