I think it will be a healthy competition. Renouf will probably be number one ruck more because Lobbe is a better forward IMO.
Maybe Renouf will be number one ruckman because hes a better ruckman?
Looking at Lobbe's ruck stats from last year (posted in another thread) he got killed in most games.
If Renouf plays Lobbe will be back in the SANFL or in time, off to another club.

There is more chance of Lobbe being Renouf's back up than vice versa

Congrats on the win on the saints, and port has done some good recruiting in the off-season (Wingard, Ebert. McCarthy etc), but after seeing Brad Hill play for Box Hill on Thursday night against the AIS team, who was drafted by Hawthorn for the pick received for Renouf, this has not been a good trade for Port. Renouf is serviceable at best, and is not a number 1 ruckman. With Max Bailey getting injured again, Broc McCauley probably played better than you'd expect from Renouf, and picked him up in the rookie draft. Pick 33 was definitely too high for Renouf.

Only if they don't get anyone that can ruck

Longer>Giles>Redden

If they also get Elton, i think he would get played before Redden Bolger might aswell
:eek::p

Last season we paid overs for something we thought we desperately needed. I don't think anyone expected Redden to already come on as well as he has so far this year. As of now it's looking like a poor trade, but the logic was sound at the time.

Don't get used to McCauley playing well either. He was as soft as they come at Brisbane.

Disagree.

Bit late with the april fools jokes.

There was a reason No-one else wanted McCauley... He is even more of a liability with the ball than Mark Blake was... I think the Renouf trade, given our situation was the right move. And hey lets at least wait till either Hill or Renouf get on the park to decide how this trade works out...

With the bolded bit or the underlined bit?
`The logic was sound at the time.'

Not really. We already had Lobbe & Redden (who had just been an SAFL premiership player hitting the right age), and if all we wanted was another option, we could've drafted an SANFL/VFL ruckman late (a guy like this perhaps), or even in the rookie draft, and promoted him instead of Pfeiffer.

Did you see Stephenson on the weekend... He looks lost out there... At least Renouf has shown he can play AFL. He might not be a worldbeater but he is a hard competitor and given our style so far this year I think he would fit right in.

I didn't see Renouf out there at all on the weekend either, uncle Chop

And yeah, a guy you trade #33 for should be better than a guy drafted at #79, but that doesn't mean its necessarily the best choice to make for total list management.

hindsights a bitch

Still think Longer will become better than Redden

Remind us of where they were both picked and whether you want Longer or Wingard with Redden thrown in.

Unfortunately we had to play McCauley due to injuries, but he did a job and we got him for nothing. He's never going to be in our best 22 (either is renouf), but Brad Hill's potential far outweighs Renouf's, seeing him kick 4 goals and 20 odd possessions against some of the best young talent in the land was a great sign. He probably won't play this year and will be given time to develop. Sound's like we both happy with the trade though, so a real win-win.

I think we went after Renouf as a No. 1 option, not 'just another option'.

Do you think he'll be better than Wingard?
