Imagine if the supporters fought for the creed as much as the traditional guernsey. Mediocrity wouldn't still be at our club with a ten year coach with no GF appearances and sitting 12th

Or the truthful words of Fos Williams:

"Any club worth its salt will clean out its no-hopers from the doorman, to the head trainer, to the captain.
Keeping no-hopers in these positions, or any other position, is the mark of the non-successful club

Totally unnecessary and misplaced to dump on this campaign and the drivers of it, and the supporters of it. Sometimes think first before you post. This campaign didn't just start now and it sure shouldn't stop because of the stuff ups of the current custodians.

Just had a quick look at On the Couch.
Interesting that not one of the actual hosts commented on it.
Jon Ralph highlighted the fact that other clubs have been able to wear heritage jumpers….and that was it.
Not one comment like “that sounds fair” or anything.
I would say that in all likelihood nothing will happen……again.

I’d love to see the issue discussed beyond Collingwood stamping their feet and saying no, and the usual weaponised bullsh¡t about our history from the first AFL bid onwards.

Someone putting forward an actual argument as to how Collingwood are supposed to be injured by our wearing the prisonbars in a game that doesn’t involve them in the year 2022+ would be a fantastic start.

You’re getting the issues mixed up.

Do you think those of us who back the bars are Hinkley supporters? What a strange connection to make.

Any fight for any part of Port Adelaide’s soul (be it PB’s, Alberton, Clearing out no hopers, game style etc.) are all battles in the same war.

It’s the VFL, their colours, stripes. Simple as that, doesn’t need to make sense at all. I’d say most supporters of any club couldn’t give a crap.

This is about power, ego, keeping that little team in SA in its place, they joined our league….

When I was working in the Adelaide Branding back in 2010 I saw an amazing amount of this same crap within the SANFL re other issues.

They won’t ever budge.

The only way we wear it is we just wear it - we aren’t playing finals so who cares.

Yeah, I saw that too. Garry Lyon's reaction was telling (just a dismissive shrug of the shoulders with no comment) - they couldn't care less.

Kinda my point, fella.

This sh¡t has been an issue for 20 years since we first wore it in Heritage Round, and there is never a good reason why we can’t going forward.

The closest we ever get to a stated rationale is “hurr there’s a contract!” — which turned out to be rubbish — and, “something something Porp Hour derp”.

It’s about time these journos got off their arses and got to the bottom of the issue, instead of just handing McGuire an unchallenged soapbox.

Why the hell don't the club want to talk about this publicly.

Ridiculous IMO.

We have been so weak on this issue and keep setting the bar lower and lower.

The whole thing is a ****ing disgrace!

:tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

I shouldn't quote this crap but the username of another non-Port supporter who knows more about our history than we do cracked me up :tearsofjoy:

Look at it this way! If we're out of finals contention by that point than we need not worry about the 4 point deduction, it'd actually make a stronger statement for the club's future ambition (If it indeed has any)

Perfect time of the year to have the home showdown thankfully. For more reasons than one.

This could be such an easy win for our soft **** administration, who have been kicking own goals for years! Just fight this properly and gain some respect from the 'white noise'.

I genuinely don't see a downside to wearing them regardless of what the AFL says. The loss of 4 points would be a huge statement, lead to plenty of talk about it given how unprecedented it would be. And to top it off, we'd likely end up with a better draft pick.

Just do it

I really thought this would be the time to strike with a big faargen sledgehammer
The wobbles are in disarray in my opinion, new prez incoming, the whole Lumumba scenario and no doubt plenty of other 'things' swept under the carpet
Get stuck in with a strong, decisive plan and don't stop, don't relent, don't accept anything but wearing the prison bars in all home games at an absolute minimum.
The wobbles to wear an 'away' strip when playing us at home, with the stadium saturated with the prison bars.

Our Right
Our Heritage
We Are Port Adelaide

Well said
As unlikely as it is that we would wear them and cop the four points, or whatever the vfl wanted to hammer us with. That action would get this issue on the front (back) page and have the whole country taking notice, and I include other codes in that.
It couldn't be ignored then and I believe a little short term pain for some long term gain

This issue is a fantastic microcosm of why our club is weak and pathetic and why they will never win another premiership until that changes. There is a direct correlation between the gutless preliminary final performances and the way the club handles this issue. It's a deeply embedded culture of losing that permeates the psyche of everyone at the football club. The subconscious mantra is we are not worthy or good enough to compete in this competition.

The softly softly, diplomatic approach hasn't worked for 25 years, unless you count wearing it 5 times in 25 years as working, which the losers who run our club probably do.

Nobody respects weak people. Weak people do not get what they want in life. Weak people get walked all over. Act with some strength and authority. Wear them and dare the AFL to fine us and/or take points and/or take picks away. And then do it again regardless of what they do. We would win the PR battle on this. Nobody is going to take the side of the AFL and Collingwood in penalising us for wearing a guernsey that harms nobody in any way. The problem is, we never get a PR battle because the argument never goes beyond 'Port want to wear it, AFL and Eddie say no ... oh well, how 'bout them Dees!'.

As I've said before, the only reason this doesn't happen is because the people who make the decisions at our club are more concerned by their future career prospects than by the club's best interests. They are weak, weak people.
