Port aren't a small club. Thinking that plays into the weak club's board's hands and the Victorian/AFL narrative. It is a pathetic mindset.

We, along with the other "interstate" sides are just far too complicit in not calling out the massive State sponsored Victorian advantage.
100% this, but if we do they will give us shit time slots, a shit draw heaps of 5 day breaks, **** us over at the tribunal and water board us into giving up the fight.

it’s a bully system gill runs.

This is what happens when you get a bunch of mediocre business people like Richardson and Kochie with no negotiation skills.

The other side has always had an extreme position against the bars. So you need to start off with an extreme position of your own.

You don’t come out meekly proposing to wear the bars only in showdowns, you come out saying we’re wearing the bars in every single game.

Everyone then needs to compromise and you probably end up with bars in showdowns. Instead, we weakly show our hands with no wriggle room and we’re brushed aside.

As a member, I wouldn't care about any of these penalties. In fact, it would be without doubt the club's finest moment and greatest achievement in 18 years.
Yeah I agree, but you know there’s no admin that would do that.

I’d even expect there’d be a set of Ken clappers that would sue the club and force the removal of the board that signed off on it “for not acting in the clubs best interests”.

We all yearn for the days on 1902 when we we stood our ground and forfeited a GF based on the umpire (interestingly Richmond did exactly the same in 1904 in the VFA).
Not gonna happen now.

100% this, but if we do they will give us s**t time slots, a s**t draw heaps of 5 day breaks, * us over at the tribunal and water board us into giving up the fight.

Such a silver spoon old Gill.

Yep. I'm against negotiation but if you're going to negotiate at least do it properly.

They already do all that.

It's obvious nothing is going to happen with the PB's until we get some genuine Port Adelaide people back in the top positions at the club, enough has already been said about the kokmeister and his multiple short comings, I believe Richardson is/was a local blue bagger, and Davies is from a cricketing background.

Someone mentioned getting Bucky Cunningham back for the president's gig and I couldn't agree more, but the key to the club making any strong moves in that direction will almost certainly rest on the board.
At this stage we have had crickets ( publicly ) from Darren Cahill and Rob Snowden, we need blokes like them to start rattling the cage.

Didn’t McGuire threaten to take it to court if we went out onto the ground wearing it? Maybe that’s part of the issue. They’re threatening us with legal action so the afl gets to stay out of it.
Threaten to take AFL and Collingwood to court.
They're bluffing us with legal action.
Let's do it to them.

Seriously all, our admin is never gonna fight on this. Ever.

We have no leverage over Collingwood. And there is no financial business case for the AFL to step in.

If you can find something that Port Adelaide has that they can bargain the AFL with, or realistically threaten Collingwood with, then there’s a chance.

But there isn’t. It’s more and more a Vic comp than ever before, despite the COVID travelling show last 2 years. And Collingwood are the top of that Vic tree.
What a little battler club loser mentality this is.

The members and supporters who started the BBTB push are not the administration of the club. Why should we meekly accept the AFL's bullshit position on what should be a very simple issue?

How does this thread keep coming back to 'we should just wear it' when our board is picked by the AFL and McGuire ? Who is the we.
Its strange, to me anyway, but it did appear like Koch pulled a fast one on the AFL in 2014 with the elimination final guernsey. I still think Koch and his merry band are capable of some independence but are just feckless cowards most of the time.

We have no leverage

Our leverage is that this is of vital importance to us and a very low stakes issue for everyone else.

So we just need to show that the penalties don't matter to us. That the guernsey is more important. When they AFL realise that they're going to have to damage the integrity of the competition to keep punishing us over a guernsey, they'll work something out, because it's not worth this being a problem for them.

This is why the soft diplomacy tactic is dumb. Force their hand. Make them punish us and they might come down hard once, but if we keep pushing it they'll relent.

I’d like to say that this approach would work.
But it won’t. There‘s a reason that clubs NEVER take this approach.

Fan led protests DO work, but they have to be big, and they have to be newsworthy, and they have to pressure the club (not the comp), and they have to be continuous until you get what you want.
Exhibit A: English EPL club backlash to European Super League. Made the clubs back down.

Yep.

Remember when we proudly shunted that flog Stevens to Carlton.

This would be that x 100.

No they shouldn’t if they want to.
But there’s very little chance of achieving what you’re looking for, the way the narrative it is now.

A simple issue, I agree as well, but once you get entrenched positions on opposite sides then the history of the battle becomes part of the issue as well. Collingwood and the AFL won’t back down easily, simply because they’ve not backed down for so long that they don’t want to invalidate their own efforts over many years - however silly it is - by backing down now.
History shows this in countless examples. I bet you’ve done this at work, or with kids. ”Why?” “Because I say so”

This issue needs a fresh angle, that allows groups to compromise without making their past opposition look like a waste. Find that, and you get what you’re looking for.
