I better not see Koch over there with these ******* campaigners. * Collingwood, just wear the bloody jumper.

Full credit to them. I love the middle finger pointed in our direction

They’d take draft picks, fine and then dock points for the next season.

We are never winning another flag anyway so just ducking do it.

These are penalties they handed out for drug cheating and deliberate salary cap breaches.

Doing that for a guernsey would just garner sympathy for us because it's a manifestly unfair penalty.

I’d like to say that this approach would work.
But it won’t. There‘s a reason that clubs NEVER take this approach.

Fan led protests DO work, but they have to be big, and they have to be newsworthy, and they have to pressure the club (not the comp), and they have to be continuous until you get what you want.
Exhibit A: English EPL club backlash to European Super League. Made the clubs back down.

What similar situations are there where clubs could have petitioned the league and didn't?

There aren't really any other situations like this. Most major professional sports leagues are much more equitable than the AFL, and I'm not aware of another situation where a team isn't allowed to wear the playing strip of its choice at home.

By forcing the issue, we switch from permission to forgiveness. We force the AFL to reckon with the issue and to come up with an appropriate punishment. If they go too hard, that just adds weight to the general feeling that we're being mistreated on this issue. The change of angle needs to be convicting the AFL that Collingwood don't need a seat at the table in this discussion.

In the mean time, we need to engage in some civil disobedience, the only way anything gets achieved against a power who doesn't want to help.

And that's probably the best chance of getting traction.

Wear it in the showdown.

Loss 4 points this season - no worries. Better draft pick.

Fine us? We are already in debt to the AFL and the AFL run us so..
I think the most likely punishment would be loss of draft picks, which makes it a more difficult action, especially as we've been coached "at the top of his game" down to a top 10 pick.

I beleive your 2nd point but they need to get firmer and louder

Can't keep playing it nicely behind close doors

Agree, I reckon they’ve been trying diplomacy. That only works if you have leverage.

I used to think this but it's a bad idea.

Collingwood don't own the copyright, the AFL do. So Collingwood can't sue us. What we need to do is just wear it. What are the AFL going to do, take one of its clubs to court?

They have literally no leverage beyond fines, points and picks. Let them compromise their own competition by fining us and taking points and picks off us. And then dare them to keep doing it as we keep wearing it.

With a bit of fight this is a war we win.
Yup, AFL own it ALL.

It would be wildly out of character for Koch to be bold enough to just have us wear it, but he's gotta be desperate to deflect from the Hinkley debacle.

Here's your gilt edged opportunity to engage a very restless fanbase. Just do it.

I see it as encouraging that he's mentioned it as an idea that's gone through his head before.

The other thing is with the idea of just wearing it, there wouldn't be an announcement, we'd only find out the moment it actually happened.

Just imagine the crowd response man. You'd cop the penalty for that alone.

Can't see the club doing it when they feel that they are making ground.

They're wrong about making ground though, that should be obvious given the massive fan generated campaign has seen us wear it once, in our 150th anniversary year. They're never getting anywhere by asking nicely.

On reflection, I'm not sure I care enough about this now in what will be Ken's worst season in charge. Let's leave it until we have something to celebrate.
I get that sentiment but something so simple with zero cost to anybody else, shouldn't be something that happens once every decade for us to cherish and save.

The campaign isn’t over, it never will be.

I also don’t believe the club will give up on this either.

Our board is in control of our club but OUR BOARD IS NOT OUR CLUB.

Consider the depth of the insult involved in our board using bbtb to distract from... you know who.

This thread should be shut down until these effing distinctions and conflicts of interest trigger a proper revolution against le régime des médiocrités and effing heads roll. Waste of time until then.
