How about we try to win the odd game of men's football first. Just a suggestion.

I don't expect that this will have much impact on the men's team.

With the AFL covering the start up costs for the founding clubs this is the time to get on. Plus Queensland female talent is really strong relative to the rest of the country compared to the men; only behind WA and Victoria.

Zorko could wear a wig, pretend that he's his sister and sneak onto the girl's team and dominate. Reason I say this is because they look pretty similar. Only problem would be the scenario of ryan Lester sneaking in to the girls team locker room after games. *girly voice" "Heeey ryan, what are you doing in here? "Ryan what are you doing, No! Stop! It's me. It's Dayne! It's Dayne!! "

You do understand that the men's football team and coaches aren't going to be fronting up for the women's games, right?

Is it financially viable? I know it's fantastic and I get all the intangibles but does someone with anymore knowledge have any idea about that?

Women's sport is massive in this country, and there is a huge buzz in Melbourne about this. Adelaide and Sydney are going to miss, but we will be a foundation side, and are rated as one of the stronger talent and organisational bases. The AFL is funding it and it offers a lot to our club, which Swanny can see clearly. Curtain raisers, joint sponsors, joint memberships and more kids playing footy ,with female role models...about time, it's a no brainer.

Yeah, reminds me a bit of my dad saying "how about we fix the unemployment rate before worrying about gay marriage" as though one precludes the other.

In 2017 the AFL will launch the first Women's league at a national level. For the first year of the league the AFL plans to have a minimum of 6 teams (4 Victorian and 2 Interstate) and after reading it on the Lions website, it seems we are frontrunners or near certanties to grab license for one of the teams.

So at a fan level, what is your opinion on getting a female team for the lions?

Women's AFL in Queensland is actually pretty popular; so being a foundation club is a no brainer.

I think in about a decades time women's sport will be way more popular so it's a good time to jump on when the AFL is committed to funding it.

Yep fantastic news. There is some great local talent and the Coorparoo women's team has been going from strength to strength.
