Is it just me or do we almost always get the fox sports broadcasting/commentry team for Eagles games?

How come there arnt many Eagles games with the channel 7 team?

I really cant stand some of the fox sports guys e.g. dwayne russel.

The standard of television commentary is terrible across the board IMO. It seems they feel as though they have to project their personality over the game and usually do so in a premeditated, artificial manner.

Dennis is great when he just calls the game and let's the situation create humorous scenarios. I think he does that more these days, which is good. He went through a period of trying to force gags into the game.

I think Mark Readings is a very good caller and should be promoted from Foxtel Cup to the AFL.

Generally, ABC radio commentators do a great job.

Because Channel 7 usually only shows games between Victorian clubs, since most AFL viewers live in victoria.

Not generally. I would say majority

I thing in general the commenttors are getting better, with the marked exception of Tony ****ing Shaw.

Fox have some blokes who I really like. Huddo, Gerard, Dunstall, Brereton etc

At least it's not like the old days when we used to get Kevin Bartlett.

We don't get C7 commentators unless we get C7 games. Most of our FTA games are Foxtel games which C7 Perth elect to broadcast in place of the assigned C7 game.

Fox is a mixed bag. Eddie is just awful, Dwayne Russell not far behind, Tony Shaw knows less than Jon Snow, Alistair Lynch is a bit simple. Dermott talks too much and complicates the simple, and David King/Brad Johnson overdo the pre-game/mid-game analysis.

Gerard Healy is pretty measured on most things excluding Nic Naitanui, Mark Ricciuto like Nafan Buckley has no on camera charisma but understands footy and makes intelligent observations on what he sees rather than just regurgitating statistics put in front of him, Dunstall is OK and Huddo & Sandy are actually professional callers of sport rather than just ex-players with no other skills.

I'm of the understanding Foxtel wanted more games featuring the WA and SA teams to expand their subscription base. Remember when derbies used to be sometimes scheduled at night as a marquee game? I think the last FNF derby was 2004 or 2005.

As others have said, it depends on when we play.

Most of the ABC commentary team is top notch. I'd listen to Gerard Whateley and Drew Morphett any day of the week.

Bruce and Den, love their commentary too, and even Basil is starting to grow on me. Brian Taylor is one I will never, ever enjoy listening too. Ever.

Foxtel games really mean nothing in WA. We're on Fox - it's on FTA anyway. We're on FTA - it's (as of the current agreement) also on Fox.

Less is more really hasn't sunk in with C7 and Fox when it comes to commentary and analysis. FNF on Fox is a panel of 4 plus 'Kingy and Johnno in the war room' rabbiting on for a good hour before the game, then you get all of C7's crew during the game.

When you've got a cast of thousands trying to call the game everyone tends to go a bit Dermott and talk for the sake of being involved. All you really need is one or two calling the game and another for special comments. That's more than enough. EPL games on Fox are regularly called by one dude with no half time or full time discussion. Suits me.

Absolute gold.:D oh and true.

The only saving grace is we generally have a couple of decent commentators like Gerard, Dunstall to off-set the crap that comes out of Derrrrrwayne and Shaws mouth.

I dont know if Fox have given commentators a direction to go in but i HATE Dwayne Russell on Fox and then if you hear him on the radio you think its a totally different person

The Foxtel A team is better than the Ch 7 team, quite comfortably.

The Foxtel B & C teams are very poor though.

Tony Shaw, Matt Campbell, Spud Frawley, Alistair Lynch et al. Useless.
