I really think Special Bruce is past his use by date as a commentator. I watched the replay of the GF on Foxtel this morning. God he was boring. No emotion or excitement in his voice, even with a couple of minutes to go. It wasn't too noticeable on the weekend as I was too wrapped up in the match but watching today thought he was pathetic.

I hate his question tags all the time. "It's a good match isn't it?" "He's a great player isn't he?". "That was a great mark wasn't it?". I think Dennis gets tired of answering him.

This sometimes crosses my mind but then I think of the alternatives and there isn't much left.

I wish Brian Taylor commentated every game.

Still the best in the business and thats because he calls the footy.

the rest think calling footy is about how many limericks you can provide and how much crap you can talk about instead of calling the game.

Nothing has changed in 20 years

McAvaney, Commetti, Morphitt and Lane are still the best by miles.

Got to get rid of commetti as well he is as boring as batshit. he continuously has these little covert digs at either players or clubs, piss him off.

Cometti.

You don't class Cometti's rehearsed puns as "crap you can talk about instead of calling the game"?

yes I probably do but he does not go on and on at nausiam like so many others do.

Both He and Bruce are professionals that for the vast majority call the game, I like BT voice and think he could be a great commentator but he gets so carried away with other things while the game is being played and that is why he is not in the top echelon in my view.

The young guys like him because they themselves don't care to much for the game and think its entertainment and not a football game.

I remember in round 22, Richmond vs Port. The Tiges kicked a goal to get back in it and Bruce said "The Tigers are roaring! ROAAAAAAAAAR". It was so stupid that it was funny.

He was OK when he did the VFA in the 1980s, but once he went to Channel Seven, he went downhill gradually.

Eeeeeeeeesssssser-den
Speeeeeeeeeeeecial
Delicious

Some of the worst catchcries ever.

Can't stand Bruce, can't stand Dennis, can't stand Matthews, can't stand Watson. The only 7 bloke I like is Tom Harley.

Now that Clinton Grybas is gone, Huddo is the best in the business by a mile.

As the OP said... I hate the way he makes a statement and then questions it... 'They're coming now! Aren't they?' 'He's playing a great game, isn't he?' Shits me to tears...

Brewwwce is a simply awful commentator, always has been, always will be. Has some of the worst catchphrases I've ever heard, and what's worse, the other commentators on Seven think they're good, so he keeps using them.

Really needs to retire.

Can't stand Bruce, can't stand Dennis,
Cometti I still think can be a quality commentator if he would maybe just bring it down a notch. By that I mean cut down on the 'isms and be a little less self-aware in his calling. Which I think he has done a bit this season anyway.

Apart from that, his play by play calling is as sharp as anyone's.

Should take over next year.

These threads are bloody useless. One poster says "X is great, best in the business". Another poster chimes in with "X is the worst ever".

May as well save your breath, there will never be any consensus and you will never influence who gets the jobs. Don't let commentators bother you so much.

Gerard Whateley of ABC Offsiders is the premier footy caller and sports all-rounder now. He is the heir to Bruce.

Always been a fan of Bruce but if I have to listen to... '..gee you think one more goal now could be so important..'...one more time...so help me...

We've been saying for years, tone it down Commetti, if he does then ok.

he was terrible yesterday. he was over top with his usual waxing lyrical of everything. the center metre perfect line was just terrible

Uses way too many stats and trivia facts. Its like he's trying to impress with them. Fkin annoying.

Plus the rising tone in his voice after each play is irritating.

There was plenty of excitement in his voice last week in the dying seconds when he said "it's going to be a draw....its unbelieeeeeeeeeevable".

Agree he gets caught up in too many stats and asks too many questions, but he's still a bloody good caller. Channel 7's problem is the team they have assembled. Watched a replay of the 1997 Grand Final last week - Bruce was calling, Denis was calling and Lethal was doing special comments! 13 years later, nothing has changed. They need some new bloody.
