Traded Bryce Gibbs [traded to Adelaide] - (cont. in Part 2)

If Robbo can be believed, most people think shit runs out of his mouth as a rule unless it suits their argument, then that would be a good get. You'd have thought the Crows for instance would have gone hard with a $700k+ per year deal over 4 years or so.
That's a lot to give up in that time. Unbelievably so really.

Mark Robinson suggesting that Gibbs will sign on at Carlton with a new contract worth approximately 500k p.a

Things can change quickly and it's not done until it's done, but things sound very positive between Gibbs and Carlton at the moment. Seems a formality.

Well as you know J, it was posted on the Carlton board that the Gibbs re-signing announcement will be made at our 150 year celebrations next month. Appears to be still on track.

Why would the Blues need to announce this at their 150 year celebration and not earlier? You have a few players better than Gibbs where signing them on is a big thing.

What do posters think of his value? I think he is a solid B+ player.

Why wouldn't we tie it in with our 150th celebration? Seems like a nice positive thing to do.

We've done this in the past, and what a perfect way to start off our night.
Gibbs divides the Carlton board, mostly because he is inconsistent.
I think a B+ rating for Gibbs is about right.

It is, but I would have thought making the announcement asap would be better for the Club then having to wait till then. With that said Im sure that once he signs it will be leaked out through the media in any case.

What you are paying for him is the correct market value. I think if the Crows were offering $700k for him that would be a waste of money for someone who is not a key positional player.

Do you think the contract would be 4 years? Im sure it must be at least 3 years.

At his current output I wouldn't have him on anymore than about $500k a year. Anything north of that and I think that is paying overs.
He's saying all the right things about staying and i'd love him to stay at Carlton but only for the right price.

As for the term, i'd be happy with 3 years.

How poorly is he playing? Not even Daisy good, poor Gibbsy. :/

Was never leaving.
Will be announced on June 14 @ 150th function.

Adelaide might have to start recruiting there own players. As much as we are criticised for taking Collingwood people, Adelaide do the same with us.

However I'm more fond of our poaching from Brisbane. Far more impressive.
Betts was the only one they took, your mob were dumb enough to give them Jacobs

Inconsistent would be the best way to describe Gibbs in 2014.
Had some very good games, mixed in with some very very poor games.
Apply that to quarters and you have Collingwood 2014 ;)

Do you believe your Club can win a flag within 4 years?

All that matters is that Gibbs was more satisfied with our presentation than yours. I'm not privileged to know our full list management plans so it's impossible to answer that question. All I know is like last year, we will be changing 25% of our list again. So you'd think in 4 years the list will be completely different and therefore it is impossible to predict where we will be then.

But for your sake, I hope Adelaide improves their presentation to potential players. Because if ours was enough to convince Gibbs to take a significant pay cut to stay rather than go to Adelaide, when 17 other clubs come presenting to Paddy it might be trouble.

Funny that the 1 player that Adelaide always believed should've been a Crow is the one player they haven't been able to poach from us.

Paddy may go, I dont doubt that at all. A footy environment is dynamic and can change rapidly within a week let alone a month or a season.

You dont know whether Gibbs was more satisfied with your presentation than ours. For starters we were not allowed to approach him, only his manager.

Secondly, its fairly clear that Gibbs is calling Melbourne home and that would have been a significant variable in his decision making process.

The other issue, is that we dont know what part Port played. Truth be told their position in terms of where they are at and where they are going is way ahead of us and the Blues its not funny.

As I said before congratulations on your Club for keeping him.

Who knows, but what we do know is getting good draft selections doesn't automatically mean success.
You should always try and hang on to good players, and in this instance we're not having to play overs to keep him.

I think the deal is done, will be revealed in July at our 150 year celebrations.
