The Northern Football League is pleased to announce that both Bundoora Park Thunderbolts and Laurimar Thunder were unanimously voted in by the League's member clubs at last night's Northern Football League Annual General Meeting.
In 2011, Bundoora Park and Laurimar will enter teams into the NFL’s Junior competition, with the Thunderbolts to be located at Bundoora Park Oval and the Thunder at Laurimar Reserve.
Northern Football League Chief Executive Officer Kevin Crompton welcomed the decision of the League’s clubs, and highlighted that the two start-up clubs would only strengthen the progress made by the Junior competition in recent years.
“This year we were able to field 197 teams in our under-age competition, which equates to 47 more teams than when the Northern Football League was formed at the beginning of 2007,” said Mr Crompton.
“With the inclusion of Bundoora Park and Laurimar – with the full backing of the fellow NFL clubs - and the adoption of the Northern Youth Girls competition, we fully expect this to grow further in 2011 and beyond.”
“Each weekend we have over 4,500 players take the field in the Junior competition across 24 divisions, and with the inclusion of two new clubs we feel we’re in a strong position going forward to feed not only our Senior clubs, but also our Junior Programs, Northern Knights, and Northern Bullants as well.”
