Might mean White now has to perform to get a game. Has been pretty woeful in shield for a while now and even ODI's have been average by memory.

Miss the second half of last season then?

Good appointment. Will be good for Wade's national aspirations by giving him another quality to his game. Will be good for the Vics who need a bit of a change, a win in either the Shield or the Ryobi this year is a must. Interesting to see what this does to White. Won't do anything in the immediate future I'd have though due to his good form last year, but this does mean he can't have another major slump and survive being dropped.

No vice-captain, five man leadership group consisting of Handscomb, Finch, Maxwell and Keath. Very young group.

Anyone know if Wade will be captaining the Stars as well?

So Finch and Keath are part of the leadership group, yet neither are a permanent fixture in the shield, and Keath isn't even a fixture in the OD squad. Strange decision

I'm guessing a fair bit of this is CA's doing and Finch is clearly highly rated as a leader by them. Hopefully that doesn't result in him getting undeserved Shield games.

On Keath, I don't mind it, it's not going to be a particularly important role for the team/squad and I don't think it'll make him a regular fixture in either side, I just think it's to give him an insight leadership roles. Will probably be somewhat of an 'intern' in that he will watch how the others lead and make very few real leadership decisions.

Would have liked one experienced player to be in the group though just to create a bit of balance and create a bridge between the old and youth. Someone like a Quiney or as you say eth, McKay.

Keath is an odd choice. He's barely played a game for the Vics and hasn't done anything when he has.

My question is, did the positive effect on Wades national aspirations force this change or was it seen as a good reason to choose Wade as they felt White needed to focus on his own game after such a long time as captain?

So was it Help Wade so drop White or White needs to focus on his own game, we should pick Wade to help his chances?

I think it's fairly clear that this has been orchestrated from above Shipperd and probably Victoria too because Wade is viewed as a potential future leader for Australia, so the direct answer to your question IMO is that the move have been made more for Wade/Australia's benefit than it has for White/Victoria. However that does not mean the change can't have a twofold effect. Victoria hasn't won a Shield title in over three years or a ODD title in over two years. Whilst obviously the fact that the likes of Pattinson, Wade and Siddle (in the test arena), plus Maxwell, Hussey and McKay (at ODI level) are not available as much as they once were plays a part, I think that the team has become somewhat complacent with the performances that have been delivered. They haven't been poor, but I feel that a change in leadership can bring back a new level of energy and hopefully bring success. It can also improve White's game, even if it wasn't the direct intention. His season last year was a big improvement on the 2011/12 campaign but it still wasn't exactly what you'd want from a batsman who at 30, should be in his prime. It takes away his safety net and hopefully revitalises his game.

Yeah if he doesn't play well then the Vics need to make a statement and drop him.

14 man squad for the first 3 games in the ODC:

Wade (c), Ahmed, Boland, Finch, Handscomb, Hastings, Hill, Hussey, Keath, Quiney, Sheridan, Siddle, Stoinis.

First game I'd expect to see:

Finch, Quiney, Hill, Hussey, Handscomb, Wade (c, +), Keath, Hastings, Sheridan, Siddle, Ahmed. We'll struggle through 10 between Hussey, Keath, Quiney, Finch and possibly Hill I'd expect.

if only, had done almost nothing for years, a gun & a vital player when in form, but needs to pull his weight

Seriously, how many of you missed the back end of last season?
