Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers squad V Tasmania
Matthew Wade (C)
Fawad Ahmed
Scott Boland
Dan Christian
Peter Handscomb
John Hastings
Jon Holland
Clint McKay
Glenn Maxwell
Rob Quiney
Chris Rogers
Cameron White

D Hussey has been dropped, a big sad but, didn't do much last year & looked pretty lost this year so far.
Dan Christian is back in:eek:

Rogers, Quiney, Handscomb, White, Wade (c, +), Maxwell, Christian, Hastings, McKay, Boland, Ahmed. I'd prefer Duck to Ahmed but that won't happen. I'd also prefer Hill or Keath to Christian and Sheridan to Boland (seriously, we have 4 seam up bowlers, one of which can swing the thing in McKay. There's no variety)

Lol, so they go the extra bowler after the batting lost them the last game and Bellerive is probably going to be a good bowlers wicket, makes sense

I think Christian is shit too, but he's a batting allrounder, not bowler.

They believed they were a bowler short and one bat too many last time, Maxwell coming back pushed Hussey out - it's hard to argue with it IMO.

I don't under stand why the bushrangers even bothered giving him a contract, his should spot should go to a younger player, not a has been or a never was been

preaching to the converted mate. Keath is as good as him already and could be a 10+ year player for the vics

If Keath was playing in NSW he'd possibly have had enough opportunity to play for Australia by now. It's a very different mindset up there and they bring kids through significantly better than we do.

It's not a hard thing to copy - they've been doing it for years. You can bag NSW out as much as you want for bias when it comes to the Australian team, but they consistently produce close to 40% of all the domestic first class players in the country.

Replaces Chris Rogers as opener

I disagree they were a bowler short, they lost the last game because the batsmen failed to make a decent 1st innings score, I still fail to see how playing 1 less batsman makes that any better, plus with Maxwell replacing Finch you effectively have 7 bowlers now in the side

Not my quote - that's what the COS said. I wouldn't put Finch in the Shield again.

Its a hard one, he did make a couple of 50's over the winter for the A side in the first class fixtures, he seems the sort of batsman that if he gets a good score they will just keep coming

I would consider for the next game being at the WACA

Finch, Quiney, Handscomb, White, Hill, Maxwell, Wade, Christian, Hastings, McKay, Boland

Use White and Maxwell as the spinners, maybe Patto might be back, he was looking towards the 3rd test

No Fawad or is in the Test team by then.

That's what my side would be. Finch is a proven spud at FC level

The flip side of course is that Victoria have maintained a better standard of level over the past few years than the level of New South Wales, and Victoria maintaining that standard has had positive effects on the development of NSW players

That may be true - but our domestic squad is almost foreign from grade / district cicket which yours is not. Very big difference in standard across the two and that underpins the respective states ability to produce top line cricketers.

NSW did kind of go through a bit of a rebuilding stage, the loss of Kawaja to QLD, Warner, Smith & Hughes to the national side, & their bowling attack out injured or being rotated through the National side.

im the first one to jump up and down to scream about the NSW bias, but victoria, hasn't really blooded any new younger players & given them a good clean opportunity, like what NSW do, aside from Handscombe, but as he is rotated up and down the order & in and out of the side.

the recruitment of Dan Christian says everything about the Victorian selectors mentality!

It's a bit of a balancing act for the states. If their internal goal is to produce test cricketers then the development environment and opportunities for younger players has to be right, but at the same time the best way to get your players noticed and actually picked for the test side is by winning trophies at state level. You will get people complaining in Tasmania about recruiting players from interstate but if they didn't do it they wouldn't be competitive. If Bailey had played for South Australia the last 10 years instead of for Tasmania and becoming a 3 x shield winner (1 x runner up) and 3 x ryobi cup winner (2 x runner up) there is no way he would have gained the opportunities he has been given at national level. At the time Hilfenhaus had the raw stats to get selected from any team but I'd say guys like Paine, Doherty, Faulkner and now Doolan right on the fringe would have benefited with line ball test selections.

Hughes left NSW at the same time as Khawaja
