Third best mid in our side. Elevated his game in the second half of last season however for some reason most of our supporters let alone neutrals didn't spot this.

A few of us saw it, but like everything, talent takes time to blossom.

I've only seen one dogmatically and stubbornly deny his talent.

He showed glimpses early last season of what he could do but then faded a bit as the year went on. Another preseason has done wonders for him, and I think having Paddy in the side has helped too. I heard someone in the media say that a player like Paddy inspires the younger players to take more risks, and I think this is evident in Guthers form at the moment. Very exciting.

He offers the team so much gets plenty of ball, can defend very well, kicks goals, provides good run and good disposal. Another big tick the club and coaches for helping to develop another very good player the team is looking very balanced at the moment. What Scott says in the media about the midfield being more than Dnager and Selwood is no lie. It bats deep and there is so very good talent there

At what point did he fade last year? He finished very strongly and became a genuine 30 poss. player.
Chris Scott nominated him as an elite mid in the second half of last season.
In preseason comments this year I was discussing (and arguing) with other posters that Guthrie
was a class mid,but the consensus seemed to be to play him at half back.
I just don't understand how so many supporters nave watched Guthrie over the last couple of years
but only now the light goes on.

Really? I thought he went the other way. Got pushed around a bit early on, then Turned The Corner in the second half of the year, culminating in an excellent showing against Hawthorn.

This kid is seriously good and most would argue has now entered elite status. I believe he is now elite. Has pace, poise, beautiful kick and proven goal kicker. Thoughts?
And tough. He brushes off tackles, he can dish the ball out calmly during a tackle, evasive and confident enough to fake players.

The way he broke the lines last night was awesome, was a big reason for Geelong's early dominance in the game.

Was that when there was a debate about him or Darling?...
No. I think it was that, ie Caddy went past Guthrie after his first kick. Guthrie was a good VFL player. We need to get in A Graders and Guthrie (and a few others) were never going to be that.

Same shit with the "VFL player" Kersten. Thing is, if they develop at your club, you get to see the warts and all. But if they are a STAR! from another team, well ain't they just the best, and God must have made them that way.

OK must not of read too much of that..cant remember that. Id have thought he has been one of our better development successes.

I thought he stood out in the 2013 finals series.

That's an understatement.

To play on Ballantyne, Monfries and Rioli in consecutive high-pressure finals and destroy all three of them to such an extent their combined goal tally amounts to one major would have been hugely impressive for a player in their prime of their career. Guthrie did it at 21.

Yeah, he came home like a freight train as I think he was let off the leash a bit and allowed to be more of a pure midfielder rather than having to mind someone and he regularly hit the scoreboard.

A rundown of his year:

Guthrie 2015

I attended a Cats function here in Canberra recently with Tim McGrath as guest speaker. A question was asked about specific players (forget the details), what stood out though was how vehemently Tim backed Cam Guthrie as a 'seriously good player'

How is Bluey travelling these days? Good to see he's in remission and looks to be well on top of things.

On the rise of Cam Guthrie, one thing I've now come to enjoy as an older bastard is the fact that you can watch kids develop from day zero of their career at the club, and view it in context.

Guthrie's rise makes me smile because he really did seem to be 'that VFL kid' as RegHickeyStand put it, a VFL kid that battled hard and won through.

Now I think he's torn down the gates and is advancing up the gilded driveway. F*ck yeah!:thumbsu:

Don't worry...I'm sure you'll find him over in the "I was wrong" thread..............

Actually....you probably won't.
