I like Campbell Brown. Nice guy off the pitch too, not sure why you guys are so angsty about him. Good on him for generating some hype on the airwaves :)

Yeah from all reports he is the best bloke going around off the field. It's just some Essendon people still haven't got over him making threats to Matty Lloyd and bitch slapping what's his face in 2009.

Ah well, he was a very good servant for the HFC. One of the toughest players I have ever seen, always put his head over the ball and body on the line.

We have no issue with him making the threats but he didn't have the courage to back them up in the whole second half that he and Lloyd were on the field.

He's a blow hard.

Bateman on the other hand said nothing but did something.

Better be careful what you say or else he may shout threats at you from the safety of the boundary line and the airwaves.

The reason why people called Matthew Lloyd the "Velvet Sledgehammer" and "Sniper" was because he sometimes had a disturbing tendency to arrive late to a contest, take his eye off the ball (out of self preservation) and raise his forearm into the head of unsuspecting opponents and cause severe injury.

The picture above shows Lloydy breaking the jaw of Josh Thurgood with his moulded plastic forearm cast

Thurgood - broken jaw - out for 2 months (his career effectively over...)
Lloyd (Gee, your honour it was an accident!) - no case to answer

Imagine how many weeks (or months) suspension Campbell Brown would receive if he arrived late to a contest, took his eye off the ball, connected to the head with a high forearm and broke someone's jaw!

Should i start dragging up pics of Brereton, Dippa, Mathews etc etc. Lloyd never stood on the head of one of his current or ex team mates nor was he deregistered from football for a cowardly behind the play snipe that broke the jaw of his opponent when the ball was nowhere in sight.

Campbell is just a battler that is all talk and little action.

He's a blow hard
You base that on 1 afternoon's histrionics, after he'd waded headlong into the punch-up and received a wicked left hook from Nathan Lovett-Murray which knocked him into Noddyland. I firmly believe he was part concussed when he carried like on like knob in that game (and afterwards)

If Brown has proved anything in his 159 game career it's that he doesn't ever shirk a physical challenge

People don't like him because sometimes, he can be a mongrel bastard, but he's the sort of guy you'd want have on your side. I'm sure he'll try to kill a few of our blokes this year and we'll be booing him just like everybody else. :D

I don't really understand why hard bastards like Brown attract so much negativity from the whinging, moaning, football fans. The game has become soft enough as it is. Footballers like Brown are a throwback to the good, old days when the game was tougher and dirtier.

Edit: the good, old days when the game was tougher and dirtier and better

You don't get it. I'm not whinging about it. I'm educating you. I'm explaining why Browny chose to infuriate the Essendon FC by calling Lloyd out as a 'sniper'

Lloyd was always painted by the media as a knight in shining armour and riding on a white horse. However, there were a number of incidents throughout his career, where he could've been suspended, but lucky for him, he got away with it. His reputation as a "fair" ball player always saw him escape scrutiny by the MRP.

Snipers like Brown, Brereton, Dipper and Matthews were never falsely portrayed as "fair" players by the media. Everyone called them mongrels and booed them. When they lashed out and hit opponents, they got suspended. But Lloydy lived a charmed existence for most of career and got away with a few snipes. Funnily enough, not in his last game, after Brown called him out. He got his right whack then, didn't he?

I once saw Lloyd start a massive punch up at the MCG back in 2005 or 2006 when Brown ran towards him, taunted him and Lloyd raised his forearm into Brown's face and broke his nose. Brown didn't back down then. Once he came too, he got up, hunted Lloyd down and punched him in the head about 5 times (and got 3 weeks for his retaliation :D)

The reason why Brown taunted Lloyd that day in 2005 or 2006 was because of comments Lloyd made in the aftermath of the 2004 Line In The Sand game. Brown had been reported for decking Winderlich and Lloyd had "broken the code" by mouthing off in the media afterwards. This was the root cause of all the bad blood

Brown's "sniper" taunt on 3MMM in 2008 was nothing more than attempted payback for Lloyd doing very similar in 2004 (and for then getting the better of him whenever they met after that... :D)

You could also say a mist descended when Brown saw his teammate Sewell get his face rearranged. The mist became a fog when Lovett-Murray belted him. After that, he jjust went a bit silly and got over-emotional. [insert pic of tearful Brown here]

I don't care if you take any of this in, but if you really care to know, these are the facts. :thumbsu:
