I would be staggered if Will Ashcroft is not captain in 5-7 years.

That's not just a pump up of Will, I admittedly have only seen snippets of his character (But he is a mature kid, that's for sure) and it's so difficult to predict that far into the future, but it's an indictment of our current lack of leadership qualities at the club.

I think Lachie should be captain next year. He may not possess the leadership qualities of a full-blown captain but I believe that he has the work ethic to set standards at the club, leads from the front and is obviously well liked.

After that you could take your pick of Berry/Clugga/Starc to fill in for a few years.

It's also very disappointing as to what has become of Harris. "Dad" was pegged for a while to be the next captain but the bloke looks shot on the field and doesn't scream leadership anymore.

Have two grandsons (11 and 14) who are one eyed Lion supporters who attend every home game.
They have rung me to tell me they will not be attending any more games until Zorko retires.
Was fortunate enough to coach and play football for just over 25 years in country Victoria (in a tough era).
What Zorko sledged on Friday night would be the worst I have ever heard.
The response from the club (Daly) is simply pathetic.
If Zorko has any conscience ( which I doubt) he should resign as captain immediately (doubtful)
Zorko has been a great player for the club but his petulance and behaviour in last couple of years unfortunately
will see his great points be overwhelmed with his bad points when retires ( hopefully years end)

It seems everything's not good now.

I've been critical of aspects of our coaching and playing but we have a match to play with a week off that we should win if everyone calms down and just focuses on what they as individuals and what the team needs to do to shut the Tigers down.

The rest of the noise can wait until after we lose if we do. If we don't we go again with the same mindset.
How can we fix our MINDSET when it has not be there all season???????????????

Sorry for the intrusion but I think these comments from your GM of Football are really disppointing. Nobody in any workplace should be subjected to vile comments about the health of family members and IMO your club should be calling out Zorko's comments publicly, saying he has let the club and supporters down, and that more is expected of him not only as a player but as a leader.

Preaching to the choir here.

l’m confused, if Zorko has a mental health issue over the pile-on from the media for a statement he agrees was wrong and apologised for, should the club not support him? Or should they abandon him the mob? Basically that’s what Daly was saying.

I don’t condone what Zorko said, and don’t think he will be captain next year, but the social media pile-ons are becoming far worse than the original offence.

and can it be sure exactly what he said and how he said it , just becauce a jorno says so ? hes trying to sell papers , yes he did the wrong thing but perhaps he is getting belted unfairly to some extent

No he's not, he deserves every bit of it and I'm hoping there are some on here connected to the club in some shape or form so they can pass this on the the relevant people at the club....

YOU ARE NOT LISTENING OR AS THEY SAY "NEED TO READ THE ROOM BETTER" OF HOW YOUR MEMBERS/SUPPORTERS FEEL ABOUT ALL THIS FIASCO......WE ARE NOT HAPPY, WE WANT ZORKO FINED AND STRIPPED OF THE CAPTAINCY. NOW!

The club is a laughing stock because of the very poor handling of this latest Zorko effort. It's weak, Zorko's mental health doesn't come in to it as far as I'm concerned. Did he give that same consideration to Petty?

No, he didn't.

Show some backbone and hand out some real discipline and do it this time like you mean it.

Yours sincerely, from a disgusted member

Lot of hypocrisy by media there too mind you, just look at the way they were relentlessly after Ben Rutton’s blood and Teague’s last year and many more before that. Did anyone stop to think how the constant banter and humiliation affect these individuals and their families? They’ll keep bashing it until it achieves what they want and then move onto the next thing.

I think Neil should be made captain regardless of this event, it's really just a matter of paperwork. He is the club leader, in preparation, in action and example. He doesn't need to do anything more than he does to be our talisman. A captain is one who holds their heads when others panic, who set examples. I still remember when Raynor was drafted, he took quiet calls from Fagan and Zorko but when Hodgey rang him he just lost his sh1t. Neil is one of those guys you look around and just pinch yourself to be playing with and will bring a much needed quiet, reassuring presence to a side who are obviously about to undergo some major maintenance to proceed.

As for Zorko some of the reactions here are pretty extreme. He has stood up and captained when we got shafted by Beams, has grown a lot in that time but still seems too liable to letting frustrations get the better of his judgement. I'm guessing we will never hear exactly what played out that night but some seem to want to hang him on hearsay.

Dane isn't going anywhere (except maybe the backline) and might just come back a new man with the title of captain removed from him. We could see him rejuvenated by not bearing the weight of expectations of a club on the cusp of greatness. I'm disappointed but will back him in none the less.

Social media anger is another form of sledging .

Can't say I recall a club ever making a decision based on what the members want.

As for the bolded section, in an age where we as a community are trying to do so much for mental health, especially men's mental health, it's a very poor comment. (And for the record I didn't even think he deserved to be captain this season based on previous behaviour)

Good post, but it shits me (almost as much as shallow boundary throw ins) when our own supporters butcher the spelling of our own players.

You've gone 0 from 3 there.

0 from 4 if you include your avatar.

There is nothing wrong with the statement there but Ling is just about the most boring/useless media commentator out there. Which is kind impressive when you think about all the other contenders for that spot!
I don' care what Ling is, but is he wrong about his summation about Brisbane and Zorko?

I wouldnt have thought so.

Our family has made the decision not to go to the final as a result of the club's position and support of Zorko by not stripping of him of captaincy or suspending him and publically supporting him.

We'll go watch the reserves instead for games in QLD.

The good clubs don't.

The Carltons and Essendons OTOH...

there was an interesting comment by hodge in the media that clug is the player he thinks still has another level to go to and could be the best player in the comp

he could be an S Grader mid
What is an S Grader mid? (unless being AA does not mean you are an A Grader and it was a typo in which play on)

S tier would basically be the best of the best. Top 10 in the comp.
