I'm fine for Young to be ripped to shreds. I just don't think against Melbourne's KPFs he is that important.
When the ball hits the ground & he needs to body the contest to control the ball - he’s a 50/50 proposition at best.

All too often the ball & oppo players just blow through him.

Reckon the Dees were lucky the wet arrived actually, only started raining properly around 1/4 time after which they got back into it.

nah i reckon if it stayed dry Carlton would have lost it

Melbourne dominated the 2nd half.

but like i said wins a win.

As has been noted its not so much the 1-on-1s against oppo KPFs thats his worry, its all the other parts of the modern D50 game.
He looks like one of those flailing inflatable tube men on roller skates going for a ground ball.

More Carlton were quite fortunate to have kicked 5 goals. General play was quite even Melbourne’s ball use going inside 50 was poor and Carlton turned some equally average inside 50s into goals eg Curnow brilliance, Ruck free kick
Wow agree to disagree there, we kicked straight for a change sure but the ruck free aside I thought our goals in the first quarter were some of the most "system based" we'd kicked all season.

That sounds like one side was footballing a lot better than the other tbh. Fmd its hard to get any credit around here.

Thought offensively the first half was about as good as we've seen under Voss. Felt like it was very systematic in terms of us lowering our eyes for short options or making sure we are going inside 50 from 60 or 65m out rather than 80+ to ensure the entry isn't shallow.

I'm not trying to discredit Cartlon I just don't think 5 goals to zip was reflective of competitive nature of the quarter. Think you guys actually looked more dangerous in the second quarter.

Really? I would say Jack Martin contested grab against a set melbourne defence from a slow play and Mckay marking a hack kick forward don't really come under system goals at all imo

The second quarter Owies goals and Cripps goal felt more system to me

Yeah he's ok in an aerial contest, even takes a nice mark occasionally - but when the ball hits the deck its absolute heart in mouth stuff, and yep as you say he can't provide the quick release kick Gov hit several times in the first quarter.
Young legitimately one of the worst players in the comp. Not only with the errors you've highlighted above, but would have to have one of the lowest footballing IQ's in existence. Dumb, dumb footballer.

I think the Martin one was absolute system compared to way we usually bomb it in. Ball gathered on the flank under pressure, we look up, nothing to kick to. Farm it out to Charlie wide, has another look still nothing deep so puts a little chip kick over the top to Hollands on the boundary but closer to goal. Hollands takes a bit of extra space inside and puts it right on top of Lever's head to the advantage of Martin who had a perfect sit.

Previous weeks I'd expect us to bomb it long to a huge pack on at least 2 occasions in that sequence.

we're definitely creaking under that weight of expectation. there's a lot of sloppiness to us and we have some weaknesses. teams know we won't put them away.

on the other hand, 3 losses by a total of not much. we can go toe to toe against the better teams, but we'll need to win against some of those better teams to be a proper threat.

Would definitely count Melbourne as one of the better teams.

The commentators continual references to Carlton's injury list are so overblown. No real stars missing, Docherty best. Perhaps 3 or 4 best 22 missing. The rest are all interchangeable in their bottom 10 players.

Collingwood have had more talent out than the Blues recently: JDG, Elliott, Titch, McCreery, Checkers, McStay.

Docherty wouldn’t be in our top 3 most important outs structure wise. He’s a very good player but not what he once was.

Cerra, Saad, probably Docherty in our best dozen
Motlop, Martin in our best 18
Cottrell, Fogarty more than likely in our best 23
Silvagni, Cuningham 23-30 players/first drop

Not going to argue on their significance to the side and whether we would’ve won or lost games as you have already made up your mind on that. But you clearly don’t have a great understanding of our list.
