This might be why Collingwood are taking so long to respond to our offer. Will getting a pick 19 (or whatever it is) instead of pick 11 make them rethink letting Thommo go?

They don't have room in their cap though

I really doubt it. As I said, for a club so intent on changing its culture, I can't see one of their first moves being to match the offer to keep a player who no longer wants to be there. That would just make a mockery of their entire process.

I think it's just Collingwood being Collingwood. It is absurd and childish that they haven't already announced their intentions, but if it makes them feel any better I'm more than happy for them to take the 3 days they're entitled to. It's childish, but at the end of the day he's leaving so I'm not too fussed.

They probably think if they match they can then trade him to us & make us give them pick 12. But would we really do that? I doubt we would. If they matched it hoping we would then trade for him, we would call their bluff & they would be stuck with him on whatever we offered him.

Not a chance in hell that we'll be giving anything for him in a trade.

I find it absolutely inconceivable that they would match the offer. They're just delaying the inevitable.

Hawthorn has just said no to matching Sydney's offer, if Collingwood is going to match the offer, fair enough. However if they are not going to match the offer to begin with, and are just holding out the full 3 days just so Thomas would still be a Collingwood play for another 72 hours, well that just shows no class.

You sound surprised.

You know everyone is going to call daisy "daisy" and not thommo

I'm trying to start a new thing. Daisy is a nickname Collingwood supporters made up for him. He will soon no longer be a Collingwood player. Fresh start ;)

I have a nickname for him but it's too long, Thomas the Tank Engine.
Somebody make a banner, it's too long to shout out during a game

"Mick Malthouse returned after his year away from coaching to lead Carlton, but three close losses to start the season wasn't exactly what the Blues had in mind. They looked for all money to remain winless through the first five games, but eventually stabilised and hovered just outside the eight all year."

Even though we didnt deserve to be placed any higher than where we were, those 3 games we could have won might have changed the mind set at the start of the season. We could have been more consistent and have more belief.

Hopefully we start off well in 2014 :)

Andy McKay was on SEN this morning as well

Blues keen to add pair of veteran Cats
Carlton is showing plenty of interest in former Cat Paul Chapman as the club looks to take an aggressive approach at the trade table.
The Blues are waiting for Collingwood to clear the way for Dale Thomas to move to Visy Park through free agency, and it has it's eye on several other players including Hawthorn’s Shane Savage and Lion Sam Docherty.
Blues football manager Andrew McKay told SEN that Chapman is being considered, as is his former teammate James Podsiadly.
"I think he's [Chapman] probably got a little bit of footy left in him; he brings that aggressive touch to the game," he said.
"We'd be mad not to look at him, but certainly we're a long way off at this stage.
"He's an interesting one, the Pod - a key forward who's probably got another year or two left.
"He's left Geelong because they're trying to freshen up their list and give a bit more game time to the younger boys.
"He may suit us on a very short-term basis, but again, it's very early stages there so we can't get too enthused at this stage."
The Blues would be able grab the veteran duo without giving up anything, but they face a tight squeeze trying to a host of new players into their salary cap.
"You've got to keep in mind that we're restrained by salary cap and we want three or four picks in the draft, so we've just got to be aware that we need a bit of room on our list as well."
McKay also said that the club had an interest in Savage, who is keen to pursue more opportunities away from Hawthorn.
"We've spoken to Shane and he's sounds reasonably keen to have opportunities at other clubs," he said.
"We'll be pursuing him and just see how it pans out.

Valid points re pokies but it also says a little about the growing attitude of modern society where no one takes responsibility for themselves. It's not cigarettes fault you smoke, it's not the pokies or the TABs fault you gamble and it's not Alcohols fault you drink but this is not how people are these days, it's always someone/something else's fault. Problem gambling is a serious issue. I've had mates who have had problems with gambling and I can tell you it wasn't the casino's existence, the TABs existence or the pokies existence that was the problem and I can also tell you that reducing the number of gambling outlets around them would not have helped, stopped or limited their gambling as problem gambles will always find a place to gamble when they feel the urge. From what I see, more venues/outlets means non-problem/part time gamblers are going to gamble a bit more but the problem gamblers are always going to gamble unless they seek help or are strong enough to resist the lure of gambling. Part of the problem with addiction bug is that people who suffer from addiction will go out of their way to satisfy a craving.

There are some facts that people are neglecting to see when it comes to pokies and Carlton's involvement in them. Many venues would not exist or would not have the facilities they have if it was not for pokies, particularly things like bowls clubs which are very important for many local communities. They aren't all completely evil and do support some valuable community centers like this. The pokies Carlton have would exist regardless of Carlton's stance, their reason for existing is not the Carlton Football Club. We could dump our ownership of these pokies, they would still exist, just we would not get the money. The costs of running a football club at all levels is rising every year and currently being financially strong is having a big impact to the success of AFL teams, we are under enormous pressure to keep upping our income. Maybe we wouldn't have Mick Malthouse if we didn't have the pokies, who knows.

People see that we are getting money from pokies, they just don't get that the pokies would be there regardless of what we do and nothing that what we do is going to impact the gambling of the local community.

Better the money going to a football club than to a wealthy benefactor who really doesn't need it.
