I think criticism of Mullin, in this thread, is harsh.I just watched the highlights on AFL website. Mullin wasn’t playing on Frederick when he kicked his two goals.
If you watch the four goals by Reid, even the last goal definitely wasn’t Mullin’s fault as there cats defenders left their men and went to contest the high ball on the goal line. The single Freo player tapped the ball front and centre and Mullin was stuck defender three Freo players without opponents. He tackled one player by the Freo player gave the handball to Reid to kick his fourth.
The other three cats players had to knock the ball over the goal line, or at least not allow it front and centre where the Freo players were positioned.
Danger was great! Looks fit, agile, strong, motivated + was terrific at ground level. Short spells at CBs, resting (hardly) in our forward line + is still keen to run around the ground. If danger can keep playing at that level up foward and as a pinch hitting mid while Smith and holmes become A grade mids we are a big big show this year.
Totally agree!I thought close was very ordinary today and needs to have a good hard look at himself. I don’t care that it was sunny and 34, he let down the long sleeves fraternity with that effort today.
Wtf was that song
The club announced during the week that they'll be using both verses this year - thought it was great that we're finally hearing the full song
I agree. A lack of effort from Close. He needs to roll up his sleeves and get stuck in. That would also allow him to flex his biceps.Totally agree!
Had to check who player 45 was, thought not possiblewhere are his sleeves?
Rewound a few times + it WAS Close
If it’s hot again it must be compulsory to have sleeves painted on his arms!
Probably why went went to poo in Q3, no one knew he was
Only 15 disposals + one goal FFS
I rest my case
Poor form and embarrassing any Geelong fan booing Jordan Clark.I noticed some people booing Clark on Saturday. When Collingwood fans boo Ollie Henry, I don't like it. If Western Bulldogs fans have a go at Bailey Smith, I expect most Cats fans will think it's poor form. Why do people persist with this bs? I wish Geelong fans were better than this but it seems we're not.
Yes! Spot on. It's not surprising. But definitely embarrassing.Poor form and embarrassing any Geelong fan booing Jordan Clark.
Plenty of footy nuffies getting around though, so I can't be overly surprised when it happens.

I havent read the thread, just went to last page. But was Mullin leaking goals on the weekend?I think criticism of Mullin, in this thread, is harsh.
He’s only played 19 games.
As another person said previously, Mullin is in a team with guys who have played AFL all their lives. Mullin, with a Gaelic footy background is in transition.
Could be Scotty is playing him in defence so he learns the requirements to play against back line players.

Did someone mention already, we had 13 players kick goals?

Why do I feel like he is a bit of a specimen for his height, but lacks footy nous and mongrel? It's like he plays a bit soft. They should get him hanging around Atkins for a pre-season and he will come good.
Okay good to hear, I haven't watched. He's definitely not soft. He was happy putting his head over some hard balls and embracing the physicality of the game on the weekend.

We need to identify a new whipping boy and he's the most logical candidateFreo debutant Murphy Reid kicked 4 goals in 10mins. Some posters on this board are blaming Mullin, others have analysed the footage and believe Mullin wasn’t responsible and he’s just a scapegoat.
As usual, the truth is probably somewhere in between.
Scott will bring Mitch Duncan in as a shield when the Mullin bashing reaches a crescendo (give it 3 more weeks). We need to identify a new whipping boy and he's the most logical candidate
The lack of sleeves was the whole issueI agree. A lack of effort from Close. He needs to roll up his sleeves and get stuck in. That would also allow him to flex his biceps.
I wonder if some think every recruit should be a Selwood, GAS, GAJ, Bartel +++I havent read the thread, just went to last page. But was Mullin leaking goals on the weekend?

It’s baffling that some blamed Mullin for Murphy’s four goals. He's definitely not soft. He was happy putting his head over some hard balls and embracing the physicality of the game on the weekend.
I’m definitely give the guy a break, he’s transitioning from Gaelic footy. Moved across the world.Freo debutant Murphy Reid kicked 4 goals in 10mins. Some posters on this board are blaming Mullin, others have analysed the footage and believe Mullin wasn’t responsible and he’s just a scapegoat.

I'm still hopeful on Mullin. We play a team defence, so blaming one player for all those goals is a bit basic - and not supported by the footage. Agree that he's not there yet but he has some traits and showed some real potential at times last year. Above all, I trust the Geelong coaching team to know what they're doing!I wonder if some think every recruit should be a Selwood, GAS, GAJ, Bartel +++
If looking at his stats, not a terrific performance. However I remember he laid some good tackles. My impression is he’s just not getting to the ball enough, just misses, a bit fumbly + just not getting the disposals. I agree the season with Atkins would increase his grunt. As Footy Smarts said:

I think Boris has it right.

Or is he a Samson?
