Strange to sub Stanley off at 1/2 time. But I like it as a strategic move. It had two purposes:

1) Keep Stanley fresh and uninjured

2) With nobody left to oppose Witts in the ruck, it was a good opportunity to see what would happen if the likes of Gawn or Grundy start monstering everyone and winning every hitout. Can the midfield team cope? It would seem so.

O'Connor I thought was pretty lively when he came on.
Radio said Stanley did a groin. Not sure how bad.

Odd game, ultra professional early, cruising after quarter time really, we dominated scoring shots and probably still left a heap out there wasting every 2nd inside 50 entry and being too unselfish.

Good win though, team looks happy. Many contributors again

Danger needs to stop falling over like an old man and sort out his goal kicking routine, and Cameron should limit his roaming as we need a tall target close to goal in addition to Hawkins.

In soccer his role would be called a false 9

it effectively gives us an extra player on the ground, which makes our ball movement look extra silky

Agree on the first. He does not have a routine at all. Cameron roaming has been killing other teams all year, absolutely critical.

A soccer ground is so short that combined with the off side rule, a star forward has to play upfield in order to get into the game.

Where's that dude who doesn't rate Parfitt lol
Parfitt is Ok but has shortcomings... I don't overrate him.
Has a great baulk and side step and is a strong effective tackler,
However his kicking lets him down... penetration and accuracy.
Below average contested mark and needs more leg speed as a small.
Like Danger, I accept the good with the bad....
Ok when playing midfield... not a natural forward.

The soccer semantics aren't that important, the effect of creating the overload for possession chains and space from man marking is.

Essentially he loses his opponent when he moves from a deep position, the KPD gets dragged away from the D50 trying to chase him so they aren't available for a double team as a loose in defence. When he re-positions back in to a deep position he either doesn't have a mark so can get a free jump or has a mis match.

Cameron has the smarts to know when to do this, if you're always doing it you can find yourself with the ball on the wing with no one to kick to. But given that we move the ball through the middle, have plenty of runners and he has a 55 metre kick + Gary Rohan, we don't run into this issue too often.

So what is wrong with our midfield that they need to feed Cameron to get the ball forward? I can see a final against a good team where we keep entering the 50 and the ball rebounds as Hawk can’t jump, Rohan can’t hold his grabs, the defence out marks us, and smalls Stengle, Miers and Close can’t get into the game.

Cameron had 6 shots at goal today
